Sometimes, that's what I think when I see videos from people like Ellen, or Ale Villarreal when she was that age, and other young people that are better than I'll ever be......
Other times I think....maybe if I just learn more, practice more....

The kids have the time and focus. They don't have to worry about keeping food on the table, a roof over their heads, saving for the future, getting to work on time...Sometimes, that's what I think when I see videos from people like Ellen, or Ale Villarreal when she was that age, and other young people that are better than I'll ever be......

Yes!
.....and when they’re stuck at home, with no school because covid, but still have lots of energy to burn....
lack of both energy and focus (a bit of ADD helps to keep most everything in various stages of "work in progress"
) are the main things I struggle with when it comes to lessons/practice. And as you mentioned, that whole job situation - taking up most of my time and all my energy
Just so I can live indoors & buy food and such.....

Whatcha gonna tell me next, she was a quadriplegic up until last week?
She already plays better than I do, and judging from her current talent level at less than two years of playing it’s highly probable she surpassed me over a year ago - in other words - after she’d only been playing the bass for a few months. Well, at least I’m sure I could drink her under the table, for whatever thats worth.
I hope you understand if I say that as a qualifier, this is not entirely comforting.

All my basses are now for sale. Now that it's confirmed I'm hopelessly a bass hack and will remain such.Now that makes me feel so much better
