Thunderbird Club

But there was no Netflix, so what did they watch? :bag:
That reminds me of a Beavis and Butt-Head exchange.

Beavis: Hey Butt-Head, what do you think people did before they invented TV?
Butt-Head: Don't be stupid Beavis, there's always been TV, there's just, like more channels now or something.
Beavis: Oh yeah, progress is cool!

:eyebrow: Can't help it if I'm unemployed. I'm not swimming in money, nor I come from a rich family. It's not like the job market is doing great here in Spain either.
Not putting you down. There's a lotta things I'd like to get that my current financial status(retired, prolly too soon)says "no".

Drew Parsons, the bass player for American Hi Fi, actually played a sunburst Gibson Thunderbird bass in the video for Flavor of the Weak. It looks to be a 1966 or 1967 Gibson Thunderbird bass, but it could also be a Norlin Thunderbird bass.

Oh, you're new? Or you haven't interacted since before I joined this thread? Video looks good! Do you know when was it filmed?

One thing which is my usual MO is to scour auction sites looking for guitars and basses. The other day, I found a silent witness to what happens when somebody with questionable woodworking skills decides to modify a Gibson Les Paul.

The nutcase seller had the gall to classify this as "In good as new condition." and his asking price was 1255 euros.

It looks like wood ants went bananas on that poor guitar. How much are they asking for that trainwreck?

So I know this has been covered but I have no recollection in my psychedelic addled brain. Suggestions for a good stand for Tbirds ?
Hercules brand bass stands are my favorite.

Got a question for you guys. What are your thoughts on straight jack cables vs angled? Not just aestethics and looks but on a technical level.
I use both, but typically it’s a straight jack into the amp and a straight or angled into the bass. I have had several angled jacks break off when hit or pulled wrong. When they break off they usually leave the straight end of the connector stuck inside the jack. Not a huge problem to get out on the bass, just remove the control cavity cover and push the connector out from inside the bass. On an amp, when the angled plug breaks and leaves the straight connector in the jack it’s a PITA to get out. Gotta take the amp apart or at least the cover off to get to those jacks, not fun, and maybe even dangerous if you aren’t careful.

It has a 3 point bridge from what I can see of it, 76-79. '60s Reverse production is '63- first half of '65, by '66 Gibson was producing the Non Reverse version.

Oh yeah. The Giants were the worst. There was the time they flooded the base paths at Candlestick to shut down Wills. Cheaters.

But really. I’m hesitant to get cocky. I haven’t participated in @Gaolee
‘s MLB thread this season because I don’t trust Roberts to get the Dodgers there. The Dodgers are the best team in baseball this season. They need to prove it in the post season. I’ve seen too many of Roberts’ bone head moves to have confidence they’ll get there.
RIP, but still, Lasorda sucks! Can't blame a life long Giants fan :p

I hear there is an opening here in CA for a Cabana boy now that Jeff is back on the East coast. Doesn't pay much but lots of gear to play with.

Indonesia or South Korea. They will adapt. We’ll pay more, but the quality will still be there, probably better. Really nothing to worry about.

With the passage of the recent tech bill here, Apple and others will get huge incentives to move production to the EU and here to the US. It’s already underway.

Costs will increase. But in the end it will probably be for the best. Ultra cheap products from China will be a thing of the past. At least for some time. The world economy will adapt. And there will be a time, however long it may be, where we’ll thrive.

Market reports are saying this really won't move much if anything from China. The cheap labor offsets mist of the benefits from the bill. Hopefully that isn't the case.

I use angled plugs at the bass end (except for basses that require a straight plug, like some Soundgear models), and straight at the amp.

This is just for my personal ease of use, I've found I'm less likely to damage something on the guitar end without a straight plug sticking out to bang into things, etc.; for the amps, at least those I have now, an angled plug either won't insert fully (due to amp design, usually) or interferes with amp controls, and is less easy to un-plug.

Same for me.
