Thunderbird Club

They sound similar to the XL's (that's why i like and use both,) but the TI's just sound better to me, more full, more ...complex, and tend to last 5-10 times as long, in my experience.
I think the Powerbass line is just that gauge, but they feel similar to the XL's as well (to me.)
Ah, okay. That's a bit of a bummer, since my T-bird and two of my other basses are strung BEAD, and I prefer the 100 gauge for my EADG tuned 4001.

Xmas present #2 (3? 4?, I forget) arrived Thursday!

The Performer, a Fender even Fender lovers can hate. Skinny neck, 24 frets, pointy headstock, weird shaped pickups, and Thunderous sound!

Made for less than a year in the 80s before they realized it wasn't playing any music on their cash register.
What a cool bass. I love how little taper the neck has. I bet I'd find it very comfortable to play. Probably good I've never played one, as then I'd probably have to have one.

Well, a little different. In '84 they were in such bad shape they stopped manufacturing in the US, all production was being done in Japan. The Performer was designed by John Page to compete with Kramer and other glam stuff. Right after they went into production CBS Fender was bought out by a group of employees. They assessed the situation and realized they only had enough resources to focus on their core business...and it wasn't this.

I think it's the last creative bass design they did. The early stuff is so common we forget (or never knew for most of today's players) how cutting edge it was. I don't care what they do these days.

I also don't care what Gibson does. Their 'new' designs are also crap IMO.
I liked the 2013 and 2014 EB bass, even if I am always annoyed by them not sticking to naming conventions. The 2017 one I find pretty boring, though.

From Fender... the version of the Jazz with the two humbuckers, the Big Block P with the one humbucker a bit closer to the bridge than usual, are the only things they've made recently that interest me. The Jag would be cooler, IMO, if it had humbuckers, or pickups in different positions than a Jazz.

How about the Blacktop P & J basses - Don't you find those interesting?

I get that, I'm just being precious. Lol.

Although, at the Carols we had to stop 3 times for announcements/readings, plus another 2 or 3 times when people did solo bits unaccompanied, or just a tape or accordion (not me!).

Since then the kill switch desire has ramped up considerably.
Some dudes are funny about controls. When I'm on stage there are alot of things going on, I personally cannot stand instruments making noise between songs. I prefer the kill switch and nothing else as it eliminates any possibility of errors. For example, I disconnect my tone knobs. I cannot tell u how many times I unknowingly turned it down during a song, same with volume knobs. I do have basses with vol knobs but still have a kill for my stage basses unless I have a single vol.

Sad to say but 2016 strikes again. One of my fave old rockers Rick Parfitt has passed away.

Very sad, I was a big Quo fan in my younger days, seen them loads of times with the original line up and 3 times with the new line up but I wasn't such a fan of that entity, seemed to have turned into old man rock. I last saw them in 2014 on the second reunion tour with the original line up and they were fantastic, Parfitt was still an absolute powerhouse of a rhythm guitarist.

Well Christmas day is finally upon us, merry Christmas everyone. You guys and gals in the Tbird club are the best, I certainly wouldn't have hung around TB for long without you all, it's a little oasis of tolerance in Bumperworld. I hope you all have a great day, most of us have it all to come, the Australian contingent have most of it behind them, they'll all be at home.on the beach stuffed and pissed, which is what I'll be at 17:30 this afternoon :)

Now that's a pretty line up, those EBs are lustworthy!
Thanks Colin. The EBs (called SG Supremes here in the states) are the perfect compliment to the TBird. Those or the longer scale Eppiphone offer a bit more low end and creamy smoothness vs the sharper attack and more aggressive attitude of the Bird. Having both the Bird and SG within reach on stage is heaven.

@ColinLP 'they'll all be at home.on the beach stuffed and pissed'

Can't get onto the beach, it's stowed out with Poms. Chicken eaten, him indoors taakin Geordie on the blower to 'is mam and da. Weather cooling down - it's only 23°C now.

Have a Thunder-ous time all.
It's not a lot cooler here today, really warm but blowing a hoolie and wet. Next year buy some barbed wire fencing and fence off a 100 yard square with a big feck off sign in each corner saying "Absolutely no poms! by order"

To be honest, I'm gassing a bit for an on/off to add to my Goth. Don't know why but it appeals,
I usually just use my tuner as a mute. Or put the amp on standby, for longer breaks. Or both.

I get that, I'm just being precious. Lol.

Personally not a fan of solos in christmas carols. Always felt they kinda took away from the group feeling of them.

I hate tone controls. Only reason I keep them on my Rickenbackers is for the push/pull functionality. Never use them for anything else.

Replaced the one on my T-bird with a pickup switch.

Will probably do the same with the one on my Peavey when I put in a second pickup.
