Man it's ridiculous even trying to keep up here. But it's fun, and probably *ever so slightly* annoying to those of you who make the effort to stay engaged.
Anyway my Epic CP has been seeing some rehearsal action. Hope gigs come along soon, I'm needing to get out and recreate! And my 'Bird needs to fly a mile or 'hundred...

While she hasn't been perfect with all the furniture in the house, my little tiger has left my bass gear alone - She is truly a treasure, a very sweet and loving kitty.

Mine guards my stuff. I did catch her scratching at a speaker grille a few times but she learned quick.

Some voltage doublers didn't take everything into account. They couldn't meet current demand when slammed and the voltage would collapse - especially with lower frequencies. Is that what was happening here?

exactly what’s happening…..just difficult to put the resulting sonic effect into words…

I've had her for fifteen years since she was a little kitty and she's really attached to me, she follows me all around the house. A cynic would say it's for food but she comes in and jumps on the bed at night to say goodnight right after I feed her.....maybe she's thanking me?

Agreed. It’s definitely a different form of compression. I’ve never gotten to watch it on a scope. I’m guessing there’s a transient peak before the collapse, maybe with some minor oscillating overshoot?

yeah to view properly you need to gate the signal generator with an external time base (another generator) and sync the scope to gate pulse….

I just wonder how many were actually producing sound. A professional sound guy here that did a lot of work in the 70s and 80s mentioned that many bands have a lot of amps/cabs on stage, some actually have speakers in them. A good number were actually playing through small combos behind the wall of amps. Not true of everyone by any means.

Yeah, one can be ungodly loud and make people within 100 ft sick. Some guy on TB used to take two SVTs to even small club gigs. I think is his name was Bobby something.....

I used to run Blue line SVTs next to Marshall Majors. The SVTs were like clubs, you could beat someone senseless with them. I much preferred the sparkle and shimmer of the Marshalls and eventually Hiwatts to the bludgeon of the SVTs.

That just shows that the sound people have won the battle. But if I were on the road playing in different places every night that would probably be the way to go.
