Thunderbird Club

Finally found why I was getting intermittent cut out on my amps. First, thought the Sunn was having issues, but when I got the MM, same deal. Then thought it was the wrong speaker cables (same on both amps). Then thought the instrument cable was bad…brain dead didn’t realize it was only with my CP since it is what I play virtually 100%. Breaking out the soldering gun.

Gibsons QA department hard at work making sure every Tbird and Firebird that goes out the door has been thoroughly tested for defective headstocks and paint imperfections.

In related news, Gibson has just announced the creation of a parts department for pickups and hardware, along with occasional scratch and dent sales.

I can't watch that, I don't care about gibson as a brand, don't like their policies or attitude, but to see so many birds being destroyed like that is sad... Such a waste... They could've done the decent thing and donated them to schools or something...

Speaking of Tbird necks, I normally really don’t pay any attention to neck size, but last night I was playing my Gibson 2021 NR bird for an hour or so then switched over to one of my other Tbirds and immediately noticed how thin (front to back) the neck was compared to the new NR. The NR has a very rounded and, for a Tbird, beefy neck. No baseball bat, very comfortable to play but might end up being a bit more durable design than previous Tbirds.

The front to back neck thickness right up against the 9th fret of my Gibby 2021 NR bird is .999”

for comparison…
BaCH NR bird .857”
China Goth .885”
Acaica fanned fret 5 string NR bird .889”
BlingBird (with slightly shaved P bass neck) .915”
Eppi VP .939”
Greco IV .941”
Korean Goth .942”
Gibby 2015 bird .965”
Gibby 2013 bird .990”

Yes, the NR neck is a lot thicker than my 2018 Reverse, I was surprised when I first got it, also I'm pretty sure the nut on my 2018 is 1 1/2" like a Jazz, this one is a little wider.
