Can they be tuned EADG?
Not really. Something will give first. Could be the string snapping if you’re lucky. Might pull the bridge anchors out if you’re not as lucky, could snap off a tuner key if you’re unlucky, and might snap the headstock if you’re really unlucky. In other words, don’t do that!

I think I need to make another 7enderbird.......

Has anyone ever bought a 5 string pack to use the 4 thicker strings on a 4 string bass?

I have bought “light” 5 string sets and tuned to D Standard/Drop C and also Db/C# Standard (Many Black Sabbath songs are tuned this way) I have found that to work well. I believe Roto makes a set with a .120 B, so it tuned up to C and C# well.

I've always wondered, how do they get the Fender necks on those? Does it take a lot of routing after the original neck is heated(?) and taken off, are they screwed on like a P bass or are they glued in place? Any details you know would be appreciated as I've always wondered and can't find the search function. :smug:

I love Rotosound and pretty much use Swing 66's exclusively but they make some amazingly light strings, they only have one short scale set and it has a .90 E string. I took those off my EB-3 real quick and found some DR Sunbeams with a .105 E. If you think a .90 E on a long scale is light, try it on a short scale.

One reason I started with an Epi was that getting the neck off was easy.........
The new neck was too wide and did not drop into the body as far as the Epi neck, so I reshaped the heel with hand tools and got it to fit the stock Epi pocket. The action was a bit too flat so for a final set up I took it to Mike Lull, the pickups were SD '51 P Bass that I potted into some NOS '76 Gibson cans, wired VVTT.

Thanks, did Mike glue it in or is it screwed? Is it done both ways by different luthiers?
