Thunderbird Club

cool video……slick axes and amps (think I saw live clip of this with the bassist playing a J)…that Rick setup was like the standard back then…
the REAL retro….:hyper::bassist:

The bassist mostly played Danelectro Longhorns if I'm not mistaken, most of the videos I've seen of them has the Bassist playing a Longhorn.

Still one of my favorite Gibson's ever.
SG-Z Bass.
It didn't catch on.
The original pick ups have a super weak output, and yeah, that bass is all neck.

Put a set of Lull's in there.......

Ok, no Gibson Thunderbird for me :(. So if Greco is similar (12 radius), I'll stick with my ThunderThings).
Another option, of course, would be a FenderBird. Do a google on that term.

Basically a Tbird body with a P (or J) bass neck. There are quite a few of those around.
Or You could build one out of a bolt on Epiphone or set neck Epi Gibson or Greco. You might need another bridge other than the 3 point to suit the Fender neck - I’m not sure.

I think our Queen has a FenderBird @TBird1958 ?

I used Dunlops on my guitars. I loved them. But the screws were too small to transfer directly to the basses. My CP came with Schallers installed, and I really like those. I need to get those onto the rest of my basses. Although I'm tempted to try the washer trick... Do those come in black?

Ernie Ball & Fender offer the rubber gaskets in several colors.

Definitely a personal preference area. I really disliked it before.
Believe it or not, I'm not that picky about necks--unless they really weird. The only neck that I never got used to was a Ric. May have been the whole bass. However, had it sounded great for me I likely could have warmed up to it.

I have one. It's a Precision in all but shape. Not the usual Fenderbird, but it works for me when I want to sound like I'm playing a Precision. It doesn't get played all that much. I think its nut width is modern P, so about 1-5/8.

no, belongs to a friend who likes these boutique type amps….won’t tell me what he paid for it lol….pretty sure he got rid of stuff to get it….very LOUD making it finally possible for the harpist to duel with blasting Marshalls…..
6 x 10” drivers….just 2 short of a fridge! for harp!…
their claim is you can crank all 100 Watts of usable power because of the voicing and feedback reduction circuitry..

That sounded pretty darn good! I had no idea Bruce Willis ever did anything like that.
One of my favorite actors is now one of my favorite harp players as well. Thanks for posting!

His sudden health situation is an absolute tragedy! I can’t think of a worse illness for someone who has dedicated his whole life to entertaining others.

Ebay also has them...
I think even Guitar Center has them now. Of course you’ll pay as much for 2 of them there as 50 would cost elsewhere.

Welcome to the Club! Fantastic bass selection, love that color most in the new Non Reverse Tbird line up.

I’m sure our club leader will be by shortly to assign a member number. In the meantime, browse around and enjoy all the Tbird (and non Tbird) related banter. It’s a fast moving club, so check back often. About the only club specific rule we have is - don’t waste your time on the search function, if you have a question just ask. There’s probably more Thunderbird expertise in this club than anywhere else on the planet.

See Emily Play fit right in with the Beatles and lots of other pop music of the time. Interstellar Overdrive was something completely different, much more in the psychedelic realm. And this version is its own thing yet again. Acid music, for sure. The music and acid combination of PF and others over the course of a couple of years definitely rewired my brain to be far more open than it had been.

Totally - I had "Piper in the Gates of Dawn" when it was new and played the grooves off of it. As a late '60s pop song, "See Emily Play" was more specifically related/in line with "Strawberry Fields Forever", "Itchicoo Park" and "We Love You" (and most songs on the Stones "Satanic Majesties Request") to name a few. Interstellar Overdrive was part of rock/blues extrapolation (jam) which evolved from jazz as early jazz-rock fusion via spacy drug-fueled sonic experimentation. I feel lucky to have been a neo teen when that shït hit the fan!

You just made my Friday with that photo. :):)

...right? Having spent time hangin' with Mark earlier this year just makes me smile seeing these pics! I hope to eventually attend a NH's show in Seattle to see V in action! :bassist:

'See Emily Play' is a really weird song, I really like it but it is weird. Reminds me of mind expansion devices and utensils.

I loved it as a teen, and I still appreciate as an adult - a fine example of late '60s psychedelic pop. I also like how they all looked/dressed - Sid Barrett looked totally mod.

Were they low impedance? They have an advantage in the studio.
