Thunderbird Club

I like it... what are the John K mods on this one ?

Apparently it's not modded at all.

"MXR Custom Badass Modified O.D.: MXR's custom modified overdrive sounds great on bass, thanks to its added 100Hz control that allows you to increase or decrease the low end. Assymetrical diode clipping with two dual opamps driven by a Darlington transistor yields everything from clean to heavy overdrive. It also has a 'bump' switch that increases the lows and low mids."

tube chassis don’t like moisture where organic films can develop within the interconnect….dry warm is where they thrive….if you gonna keep it in a basement the trick is to use it regularly, if not, charge it rent for a room…..:smug:

Heck, even solid state equipment doesn’t like condensate moisture around contact points and pcb boards where it can pool and cause corrosion or oxidation.
Some gear is more sensitive than others. My Ampeg PF350 started acting up after it spent an afternoon in a cold trunk before a rehearsal. And my friend's PF350 died after being stored in his crawlspace.

I have a gigbag not a case.
I'm pretty sure you could have put a chain around both of the bolt on Thunderbirds I had, dropped them in the ocean behind an oil tanker and towed to Japan with no ill effects. They were absolutely P-bass territory blunt weapons. The Pro-IV isn't quite as much of a beast, but it's still pretty robust. And then the VP seems pretty sturdy as well. It's the Gibsons I try to coddle, but that's partly because they are expensive. I don't coddle them that much, since they are the ones I play all the time. With the exception of the Pro-IV that's now converted to passive and is now fretless, the Epiphones are all gone or will be gone. Not because they are bad but because they just don't get played much.

Or just get a good solid state amp and never worry again?
Yep. This one isn't mine. I got mine for pretty cheap at least ten years ago before prices got stupid, but then it had apparently been in a flooded basement at some point. So I'm told. But it has worked fine for all these years with no issues. Including a show in heavy dew that was like playing underwater. I got a mouth zap, but oh well.
