Thunderbird Club

This showed up in my FB feed, they may be changing the pickups/position on the newest models.

I LOVE that color!!! If this is a new version of the Embassy, I may need to buy one!

Question for you VP types or others with similar bridges. The action on my VP is reasonable but the bridge is very high on the E side and almost bottomed on the G. I use a small amount of tilt on the 3-point but this seems excessive.

My other question is do you lower the pickups like V does on her vintage bird? The 760s seem real hot.
Not had any trouble with the bridge adjustments.

Unlike on the '64 where the neck pickup is pretty low, I haven't lowered either VP neck pickup--yet. I do want to try that but have been busy playing other things of late to give it a try.

Excellent! Thanks for posting! Such a beautiful set! That Guild sounds amazing!

Here's the SF show they did we attended - really good video and decent audio. (the whole show!) Thom played some awesome vintage basses that night! The Vox teardrop and Guild hollow-body w/twin Dark-stars were my faves!

Yeah, no that's not what I would want, plus now the shorter upper horn, EB-0 pick up, nope.

Could that be a new Newport?

I agree - cool looking, but too many continued design flaws for visual 'nostalgia' sake. I think they are feeling the heat from the popularity of Reverends Mike Watt sig ss "Wattplower" bass.

Thoughts?
I did a continuity test from the back of the pot to well up the braid and it gives a solid signal. I then tested from the exposed wire to the flat part coming off the second lead on the pot. Same result. I measured 9.17 kOhms across the pickup leads.

So, not sure why the output of the pickup is near zero. Clearly, I didn’t vibrate the wires loose.

By the exposed wire, do you mean the central wire inside the plastic which the braid is over? You are talking about the wire coming from the pickup? Sorry I came into this late. If it's the wire that's coming from the pickup it sounds like it's shorted.

Yes, I assume that’s the signal wire. So, there’s a bit of wire exposed before the solder connection to the middle pot post. I check continuity from there to the flat area on the pot before the leg bends up.

I’ve never seen continuity give a wrong indication on a connection. Could this be a bad pot? Is 9kOhms the right value for that pickup?

I'm not sure which one you're talking about (again, sorry I got into this late) but that would be a normal impedance for a pickup. Do you have any pictures or did I skip by them? I just looked at it, Even one tiny wire going from the braid to the central wire or vice versa couple cause it go go dead and read 0 ohms. Was this pickup intermittent before or dead?

Sorry, requisite 64 Thunderbird content

Beautiful car, a buddy of mine had one years ago, a sedan. Those things went pretty good, 390's I think. I love all Thunderbirds until 1971, after that they started making the big heavy giant ones, still nice looking but huge. Edit, I just remembered it was a '66 but the same body style.

It was completely dead before because the wire wasn’t attached to the pot at all. After reconnecting, I get a faint signal with the pot at 10.
