Thunderbird Club

I have no issues with the feel of EBCFs or my fingers. They just aren’t for me. Stainless rounds, SIT Power Steels or Dunlop Marcus Miller stainless steel Superbrights are my choice for my Thunderbirds. YMMV.
If you ever see a great deal on SIT Power Wounds (or David Es) give them a try. Might be worth a $16 experiment. In fact, throw some in your Reverb cart and see if you don't get offered a good deal at some point.

What's the point of that?
1. Bored with life.
2. Saw someone else do it.
3. Willing to pay more for a drink than necessary.

I joke. But honestly, I was never a mixed drink person--so that kind of think escapes me (I liked the taste of things in bottles I bought), but if it floats someone's raft, go for it. Maybe it's greater that way.

I keep a few of them around, last count was...4, plus a home made one and a 1200s 6x12 in need of a restoration. I love the damn things, if only they were easier to move! The Rick is one of my Grecos, it's Mapleglo, but the stage lights do make it look red! That one's getting a Lollar T-bird pickup in the neck as soon as I get the new pickguard in from Pickguardian.

Still the golden standard for cabinets for me, which makes it hard to find others I find up to snuff! Currently on the lookout for some of the old Fender Bassman VT cabs (Bassman 50/70 diagonal 2x15) to put some JBLs in for a more portable rig.

The Fender cab you speak of, like this?

It looks super shallow…

"Sympathy" is Keith on bass. In the video from recording/writing session he plays a P-bass on it.

I remember seeing footage of Keith recording the track and saying something along the lines of him probably being a better bass player than guitar player. I found an isolated track on YouTube, but there are a ton of examples of people playing that might be helpful.

Speaking of which, do you know if they’re a drop in replacement for the standard Epi IV?

I think the typical soapbar Tbird pickup in a little larger top to bottom than the Epi pickups, and the Epi pickups are longer in overall length so not a perfect drop in. I'm sure you can make Bart's fit with a little modification without needing to get too crazy. The Epi routes are definitely much deeper than Gibson sized pickups.

There is a Tbird pickup routing template on Reverb specifically made for Bart's, but works for Gibson pickups as well.

I have yet to find a perfect fit drop in replacement for the Eppi IV Tbird (non VP, non CP) pickup. Everything I’ve seen regardless of brand is either quite a bit shorter in length (leaving sizable gaps) or a hair wider (requiring shaving or minor routing of the existing route). The only virtual drop in pup I’ve found is the Alumatone for five string bass, and even it might require some light sanding of the existing route to fit. From a fit standpoint the Second best option is the VP/Chinabucker type pickup, which will drop in without routing but will require a trim ring to hide the gap on each end of the existing route.

We had to cut his hair short a few months because of his health issues. It’s at about 70% of it’s length - probably needs to be cut.
He had a relapse this week, but it looks like the meds worked. We’re at the stage of enjoying the time we have with him while we can.
I sympathize with you. We are at the latter stages with our lab Grady as well and every week we wonder if this will be the week. But the old boy keeps on going somehow, but you can see every couple of week he goes down a little more and you know that can't keep going. I can't see him making it into Spring. Yet I never thought he would still be around at this point. He's not in pain as far as we can tell and still enjoys some things, as much as a 14 yr old big dog can, but most days have some extra work involved. We're just glad when we close the day, we've had another one with him.

They compared it to a DAM Ezekiel. Hmmm, I used to own a copy of that, I think I ask it for a loan from a friend I sold it to.
I think the DAM Ezekiel tends to be more aggressive (or has more aggressive settings), whereas the 4OTF is intended to not be that aggressive and more for people like me who just want the sound and breakup of an tube amp pushed a bit. But it will definitely do distortion if wanted. I'm impressed that the Genzler sounds so natural and doesn't destroy my original tone.
