Different strokes. I played bass on a song here and there back when I was playing guitar. Always a Fender. Never grabbed me. I’m convinced that had I played a Thunderbird, I’d have looked at switching a lot earlier.
My first programming course was in FORTRAN IV. Yeah, a lot of people don’t like it. But I fell in love and software became my career. Years later, I spent three months working in COBOL. I could do it, but it did nothing for me. Had I started with COBOL (or even some of the languages I later enjoyed), I’d almost certainly have stuck with electrical engineering rather than switching to computer science.
