Thunderbird Club

I can just hear the conversation in the Hipshot order fulfillment room…

Costello: Hey Abbot, why are we filling this order for a replacement tuner? What type should we give him?
Abbot: He didn’t like the original. Why? I don’t know.
Costello: OK, I’ll give him a new tuner. What type?
Abbot: I don’t know.
Costello: Why? Are you missing the return order?
Abbot: Exactly
Costello: So I should give him a replacement anyway, why?
Abbot: Exactly
Costello: OK, one “Y” tuner replacement coming up.

I'm a big fan of Hipshot products and have used their bridges and tuners on my custom builds. I think I mentioned this here but unfortunately they no longer custom adapt an E tuner sent to them with their drop-D mechanism. They did a few for me on tuners I sent to them that they don't offer as a drop-D unit. They are down to offering 10 different-style tuners, with 5 discontinued, two of which I would have bought if still available. Bass Xtenders

I’m still a big fan.
I have an extender on everyone of my “playing out” Basses. That includes all of the thunderbirds with the exception of the 76 RI.
Thanks for the link.

Where was I... oh yeah.
I need help, can't quit laughing at this.

I gotta learn to twirl sticks like that. I spin the upright and have got to the point I do it almost as a time keeping device for stop time. I played with a drummer who did the same thing twirling sticks.

I used future tense because I wasn't sure when their design and manufacturing changes (if any) have taken place long enough to actually have those results in people's hands. I imagine there was a lot of pre-Yamaha Ampegs that needed to be sold, and who knows if they have changed anything yet. It would be interesting to know when Yamaha's fingerprint began to show up in Ampeg products.

When they put them in their boxes for shipping.:smug:

Saw/heard The Pretenders in the late '80s. Their drummer Martin Chambers had a stack of sticks next to him and on the last song, on every cymbal hit he let the stick fly out into the audience. As they were exiting the stage, one stick was still on stage so he picked it up and head-butted it into the audience. A total badass.

Same. I have four I can think of without an Xtender. The EB-2, the fretless, the Precision, and the Flamingo. I keep forgetting to measure the post on the Flamingo, since it needs an Xtender. It's the bass I play most. The '15 and '01 are both fantastic, but they aren't Burgundy Mist Metallic or another more exciting color than tobacco burst.

I almost bought a '65 during the early 70's, replaced motor (400) but it had tri-power and a four speed. I don't know what ever happened to it but the thing really moved.
Funny about what we all didn't do. I had the opportunity to buy a '68 Corvette for $1K. I had just bought the '68 Camaro and didn't have the money or anywhere to put another car. I suppose I could have sold the Camaro and bought the 'Vette, but the Camaro is a convertible and the 'Vette wasn't. Put back together, they are probably worth about the same now, just as they were in 1980.

I played a show a while ago and cracked a stick. I dropped it, grabbed another one right quick and kept going. After the show, I handed the broken stick to a woman in the audience who was completely thrilled to have it. It's funny what people attach value to.

I'm all over the map trying to catch up here, started my slow move yesterday, today was kinda tough since i moved stuff on my own, anyway, throwing in the towel for today.
See you guys soon.
It's a long trip across the country. Safe travels. See you when you arrive. We will leave a light on. That's what you meant, right?

That's so great!

But also great is what YT followed it with for me- the Dick Cavett show that aired the day after Woodstock, with Jefferson Airplane, Joni Mitchell, and Crosby&Stills. I found it interesting that JA played it straight even though the guitars clearly were not plugged in. So often they mocked the faux live performance by doing things that would clearly screw up the guitar playability (a rubber octopus through the strings, etc.) It could have been because they were exhausted and fried, having just come from Woodstock, but I like to think they respected Dick for the stage he gave rock musicians in a time so many looked down on them.[1][2] This appears to be a recording from a TV, which begs the question of how the "We Can be Together" lyrics got past the censors. JA had a contract that let them do whatever they wanted lyrically and musically from RCA's standpoint (or so I have read), but network censors wouldn't care. Anyway, this is a great show.

If I could go back and see any one concert I missed, it would be Woodstock. Mud, rain, roaches and all. 8^)

[1] EDIT: I don't see instrument cables, but these are not the album versions. What's going on?
[2] EDIT: In the extended jam, I can see instrument cables. So that explains it!
