It's almost always humid out here although today's not bad so far at 63%. It's worse in the winter which is often times 80-90% which makes it feel a lot colder than it really is, gets in your bones.

I bought a '62 EB-0 on Reverb that had been pleked and had had a middle pickup put on it by Mike Lull. I told the guy it would be a few months until I got back to the States and to please hold it for me which he agreed to. He got sick of waiting or more likely saw that bass prices were going up astronomically so he refunded my money and sold it for about 500 more bucks than I had paid him for it. Oh, he charged me a 10% stocking fee. I complained and got the money back but I really wanted that bass.
Is that he's playing there in the photo? I couldn't tell.

Tell me about it! Royal PITA.

I used to have a relatively fully equipped wood shop in my last house. My old Delta Scroll Saw would have been a handy thing to have for this job. I could have knocked it out in an hour or less vs taking the entire day doing it by hand.

But now that I have your attention - let me know if you’re interested in making a custom 3 ply NR pickguard from my plexiglass template.
Sure - PM me.
I find pickup routes are the most difficult part of a pickguard to get right when working by hand, so I made router templates for both chrome and plastic cover Thunderbird pickups.

Sold is sold.

If you paid the agreed upon price in full and asked him to hold it for you he legally had no right to sell that guitar to someone else. He would have the right to charge you a holding fee, but not sell an already sold and paid for guitar to a higher or any other bidder.

Now it’s a different story if you hadn’t paid for it yet, or only put a deposit down. In which case the seller should have informed you he had another buyer and given you the option to complete the sale or pass on the purchase.

Compare that with the BaCH bass I sold to Marshall. Last fall I contacted him to see if he was interested in buying it, he responded with “consider it sold”. So I did. I didn’t want payment until he received the bass and confirmed he still wanted it. It took the two of us several months to schedule a time we could both meet for the hands on exchange of the money for the bass. During that period at least one other BaCH came up on the block (maybe even slightly cheaper than mine) and Marshall never wavered from his verbal commitment (even though he had every right to do so if he wanted to). I had at least two other people call me and offer more money than I was asking, I informed them the sale was committed but if it fell through I’d contact them.

Turned out Marshall is a stand up guy and true to his word. We met a few weeks ago and made the exchange. He could have very easily bailed on me for a different deal on another BaCH or bird, but he didn’t. Because he was such a stand up guy and didn’t leave me hanging I threw in a nice guitar stand for free as a bonus.

I generally detest listing gear for sale because of the high chance of ending up dealing with a GenPop flake. I will gladly take less money on a sale with someone I know and trust vs potentially dealing with lookyloos or tire kickers or flippers or scammers.
