Thunderbird Club

I always thought the reissued Ford Thunderbirds were tastefully done but lacked a good high performance option. If they had dropped the Mustang engine in it I suspect it might have sold better. Regardless, I still think they are retro cool and wouldn’t mind owning one.
Ford had a hot roded Yamaha V8 that was available in the Taurus for a couple of years. I don’t know if it it was ever available in a Thunderbird. My car designer and car geek brother claims it was one heck of a motor.

That tail piece.......

That was probably the Ford Taurus SHO from the early 1990’s. In its day it was a pretty quick car for a family sedan. Performance wise it was in a tough market segment up against BMW and Mercedes. The engine truly was a dream, the car it was in was relatively stodgy and boring looking. I did drive one and was impressed with the straight line performance but not blown away with its handling in the corners. Had Ford dropped that engine in the new Tbird along with some suspension and brake upgrades they would have had a winner.

If it's anything like my 2001, it's pure magic.

It IS a magic bass IMO. So many things to love about it. My friend calls it my "Cold Dead Hands Bass". The body really resonates and the pickups aren't like any of my other Birds. Got it from GC for $600 with a case due to a (well-done) headstock repair. At the same time I bought it, they had a sunburst version with an ugly headstock repair on their used site for $1200!! The way it all came together makes me feel like this Bird was destined to be mine.

That engine, or a derivative of it, was an option in the first generation Volvo XC90 which is a car my brother designed. Unfortunately, Volvo is now a shadow of its former self. But from 1995 to about 2010, they put out some world class cars.

It chose you. I can't say exactly what is different about my '01, but it is just a little better in all ways. Like your '01.

Word to the rest here-if an '01 turns up, snag it.

I didn't know Hipshot did a T-bird style bridge.

The tailpiece and bridge on my Lull were made by Hipshot for Mike, considering that Gibson is going to them for tuners it's not much of a stretch. Those two I posted aren't an exact match but I would not at all be surprised if they had made it for Gibson.
