Thunderbird Club

Being a mediocre at best "cook", I microwave a (what used to be "Uncle) Ben's Red Beans and Rice" micro pouch for 90 seconds and add either shredded chicken breast (tonight's choice) or diced ham chunks.

EDIT: canned, of course.

There ya go. A bit more elaborate than my quick fixer-uppers. For the longest time, it was mac 'n' cheese with cut up hot dogs, or tuna. But lately, I've posh-ed it up with pepperoni slices for a taste of Italia. If only the bag of cheese powder came in Mozzarella flavor. :) Real Mozzarella is too stringy.

When I was a late tween, I was in my fave hobby shop and looking at motorcycle kits. I chose a Kawasaki H2 triple 750 (the real one had just come out). A guy noticed what I was buying, and asked if I'd like a ride on the real thing. Wow! "Sure!" I said.

I was wearing shorts that day, and as I sat on the back, I felt like my right leg was on fire. My calf was against the upswept exhaust pipe! I guess they weren't really meant to carry a passenger. Male or female. He dropped me off at home, and by then I had a nasty burn. But that bike ride was too cool.

I never got to ride an H2. I did test ride one of the first Yamaha RD350s in the southeast. The Tampa dealer said there were only two rules. “Don’t wreck, and don’t let a Kawasaki 350 beat you.” I never saw a Kawasaki in the next 15 minutes, but I did almost fall off the bike accelerating. My friend who rode it first quietly warned me that wound out in top gear, he flew high enough over the Tampa Canal bridge crest that the wind blew him into the next lane. So I hit the bridge about 10mph slower and only blew sideways about a foot. Probably a good thing I couldn’t afford that bike at the time.

In high school I’d had a Yamaha GS-8, an 80cc “enduro” (street bike with high pipe and dual purpose tires). The one time I rode in shorts I burned my leg. The one time I wore pants with polyester in them instead of solid denim, the pipe melted them a bit.

Worth every bit of skin and poly toasted.

You gotta add that pepperoni, enough of it and anything will taste good.

Just like bacon! Depending on where you shop - a bag of Hormel pepperoni is cheaper than a package of bacon. And you don't have to pre-cook it either.

I haven't had bacon since I moved out here three years ago. I'm going to have to rectify that situation.

I get imitation smoked salmon strips at the outlet store, some veggie cream cheese, and put it on a classy pretzel or brioche bun - and it's one of my wife's favorite meals. Sorry to digress into food. Or is it digest.

They do have my favorite soup out here though. I'm a good cook, I boil it for 4 minutes, not three.

That is a wonderful set list. Might I suggest I Fought The Law? The Clash version of course.

I think the 'tone' has a lot to do with the meaning.

Come to think of it, you're right. Dad used to say "Well, bless your heart"... but it was interchangeable with his other phrase of choice "Well, la-dee-da". So, yeah, the tone was clearly on the snide side.

In fact, when I was young, he used to punish me with his belt, so my siblings and I called him Snidely Beltlash. Just not where he could hear it, of course.

You know, if someone were to make bacon flavored ramen, they'd be wealthy. I mean, if imitation bacon bits could be ground into a powder... (not very Asian though)... but they do make a pork flavor, which is like half way there.
I use real bacon bits/pieces in a few things. Winds up being only a 'bit' more expensive than bacon which you lose about half of after cooking. Now, if I actually cooked, then there'd be plenty of use for the bacon fat. In my Mom's kitchen there was always a container of bacon fat on the stove, ready for whatever was gonna be fried next.:)

Like many other words or expressions in our ever evolving(?)language, meanings change over time.

'Well, la-dee-dar' sounds like an Archie Bunkerism. I have also felt the lash when I was young and it was usually well deserved.
