There probably was a lot of waste. But I would guess what they were doing was cutting 2 neck blanks from one board. Like this:

It's possible I guess, but more work=more overhead=less profit. I've watched a few factory tours on YouTube and that aspect is never covered.

The 2019 VP I had used the same Wilkerson tuners (older run VPs had larger mounting plates, made by ?? - not sure when the change-over happened), and it had similar, but slightly larger cracks.
A lot of the VPs, in all of the three colors, seem to have those cracks.
imo, it's partly due to the thick poly finish......
Holy moly this VP is big. I was hoping it would fit in my Icon gig bag/case that the T-bird fits in slightly loosely, but no go.
Do any of you have a gig bag/fitted case for your VP’s?

You can find all different colors for those on eBay.
For hard cases get the Epi triangular case. It fits the CP and the VP. The one I got a month ago was actually an inch longer than the one that came with the CP. Fit the VP with room to spare.
It's also a good way to make multipiece necks or neckthroughs with thinner boards. Some of the late 60's EB basses have 3 piece necks. Are the NR birds all one piece?
