Thunderbird Club

Love it Jeff. It's funny because many songs like this were my parents favorites in the late '60s, when I was listening to Sgt Peppers, Disraeli Gears and Are You Experienced! (as in, not interested!) Part of "maturing" - or at least letting restrictions based on youth go so as to fully appreciate good music regardless of where it's fitting in. I bet if I would have heard Scott Walker then, when it was new - I would have chalked it up for something my parents would have liked!

And of course, Casino Royale was the theme song to the only non-franchise James Bond movie staring David Niven and Woody Allen in 1967. (later done under the same title as a JB franchise movie w/Danial Craig - 2006)

I share your taste in music Geo, so i thought you'd appreciate it. :)

Cellphone msg received: already ready
10 km way, about half an hour drive, I get there and get my babies back.

Squier Burgundy: last week I changed stock bridge, for a brand new Gotoh, but the action was too high, so I also sent it to the luthier center ;)

Thunderbird: at first glance, still on the workbench, at the entrance to the luthier, original fretwork didn't need any work, neck was straight (I've been tinkering with it months ago); only sent it in because I wanted to get an even lower string action .

Quick edit for accuracy - “Never Say Never Again” was also a non franchise Bond film (one of only three made to date) even though it starred SC. It was a take off on one of the greats - Thunderball. The other two non franchise Bond movies are the 1954 version of Casino Royale and the 1967 version of Casino Royale.

Is the giant headstock on the Eppi VP the same as what would be on a true ‘60’s Thunderbird?

Im guessing it’s so big because they didn’t have mini tuners back then?

It's actually bigger than an original or a '76, the term "boat paddle" would be appropriate.

I redid the String Demo video. I fixed the rendering issues and added images where the Thunderbirds change. I also labeled the strings with one exception. I couldn't figure out how to split an audio clip so when you see a VP with no string label, they are the stock round wounds.

There is a longer and more detailed explanation on YouTube but simply, each track has three iterations Neck 10, Bridge 0, Tone 10; Neck 0, Bridge 10, Tone 10; and Neck 10, Bridge 10, and Tone 10.

Will listen later when I can pay more attention. Very cool!

Wonder if relicing is a thing for acoustic guitars. Seems it must be, but I don't recall seeing one advertised as such. Not my thing, but it's so popular you would think it would be for acoustics to some extent, but with more care in the process.

Willie Nelson, the real deal. Trigger is the name of the guitar.

Never knew of or saw the '54 Casino Royale - will have to check it out. Now I wonder if I've ever seen "Never Say Never Again"...

Looking for some help/advice:

So I've noticed in band practice lately that the E string is so much louder than the rest, even with bass cut on the amp. (I just use the practice rooms amp. Can't remember the brand but it's just .... 'ok' to play through. Nothing special)

Do you think this is a pickup issue? Since everyone says Thunderbirds have really low-end loving pickups.

Or could this be because of the coating on the black strings I have fitted? (Black beauties)

As a side note, I always seem to have to really boost the low-mid setting on the amp to get it to ring through. Anything towards the bottom end of the A string seems much quieter.

Another user on a thread I made about this issue said he had to adjust the pickup so it's angled further away from the E string to balance out the volume? Do you think that could help in this instance?

Thanks in advance

Seen em all, countless times. Except for the 1954 film (made for TV movie). Saw that one once years ago, but the wife has never seen it. So tonight will be a Bond night watching the first Casino Royale, it’s on YouTube, so I’ll mirror it on my big screen. Popcorn and Vesper Martinis (shaken not stirred of course) for the win!

You’ve probably seen Never Say Never Again. It had Sean in it as Bond and Kim Bassinger as the Bond Girl (Domino). The name of the yacht that was the evil guys lair was the Disco Volante. The movie was a bit less polished than the previous SC bonds but IMHO an improvement over the Roger Moore Bonds. It’s a complete take off on the previously released Thunderball (also starring Sean as Bond) and had Tom Jones as the title track singer. NSNA had Liani Hall as the title track singer.

Bond Trivia question: which sanctioned Bond flicks had male singers on the title track?

Yes, it's something else. Maybe the most recognizable guitar on earth. Could be one of those guitars where a bleach wipe might not be a bad idea before playing.
