Your bass is TV silver, which Epi did a special run of (Mostly guitars) in 2013.

I have seen the SG at GC and the color would look a little different depending on the angle you viewed it from.
Kind of like this:
2012 Epiphone Les Paul Custom Pro TV Silver w/ Seymour Duncan Distortion Pickups & Locking Tuners

They painted them the same way that Gibson painted to 50th Anniversary gold Thunderbirds, with a thin layer of paint on a body that they didn't use grain-filler on. It leaves a somewhat "raw" finish under the clear coat but gives it an interesting dimension to the finish.

WRT an early Thunderbird II, how would one tell a 63 from a 64 from a 65? Is there a good way to tell?

No IIs in ‘63, after that they’re the same, so s/n.
