Thunderbird Club

I've have searching for the right used Thunderbird the last year. A few days ago I found this one; a 2018 in really nice shape. I mostly play Fenders and Music Mans (men?), so the T.Bird is quite a different beast to say the least. I figured it would take some getting used to, but it felt great right off the bat. The sound is amazing - super clear and articulate. Light-ish weight and perfect balance. I'm loving it. View attachment 5074939
Your wait was worth it! If that bridge is stock I think your Tbird only came with it (sans the DeCola pickups) for one year.

Tbirds are truly amazing and versatile basses that come in many different sonic and visual flavors. If you haven’t already joined the club here, our Queen should be by shortly to offer you a member number if you’re interested. This is the best spot on the web to get all the tips and tricks to make your experience with the Tbird the very best it can be. Rock on!

Looks great! What strings did you end up putting on your Jazz?

No, that's the Schaller DaVinci set that's been on it for a couple of years now.....

....but if the others will fit, I'm considering switching them
Love the classy way they showcased the gears. Never really noticed the actual key heads before, sculpted very nicely. They look like very high quality tuners, why are you considering offing them?

Bond Girl has a show on Sunday at Winters' in Pacifica (Memorial Maylay - 2 stages, 8 bands on the hour starting at noon) and this song is on the list. Paul plays trumpet on it, and after his horn solo Cherie wanted me to do a solo. I would never consider myself a soloist but can rise to the occasion when called. I've finally worked something out today. (simple, melodic and tasty) I'm not certain why I gravitated to the mode, but it's pretty much a Persian scale. Persian scale - Wikipedia (lots of half-steps, augmented seconds, and frequent use of chromaticism) So now I have a day to ingrain it into my fingers so I can play it in my sleep. No matter how brief a bass solo is - it better be right because just like the Spanish Inquisition - nobody expects it!

I have those on just about everything I own except for short scale basses and that only because they only make them in an extremely light gauge for some reason.

I primarily use D'Addario nickel RW's but the ss Roto's sounded good.

I recall you discovered it was a ‘71. Does it have the’70’s pickup spacing?

Posilutly absatively! Downbeat at 3PM inside. Are you planning on attending? Chucky's seriously considering it as he has a later gig in the somewhat near vicinity.
Trying to convince my wife for this or Chucky's Saturday 7pm Gardino's or both...getting an answer is like getting blood from a turnip or any other idiomatic expression you'd like to offer.

Yes. Some of the 1st J's to have that new bridge pu location. The cliff-hanger saddles bridge location (like it has) is a tell-tail sign that CBS/Fender had 'issues' when the suits demanded the tangs from the pu be completely covered by the huge ashtray. They got it under control in mid-year '72.

Understandably - whatever happens will happen, and I hope you get to attend Chucky's gig. If you are at Winters' - bonus! Vids hopefully will be shot if not. :bassist:
