Saw Zappa twice in 74, I was 12 or so. We had the live album Roxy and Elsewhere, almost same band and material. Was a fan on the strength of that record... don't love everything, but he's mostly been interesting.

Uh oh, Big Zappa fan here, my brother and I would chase him down every time he was in NYC. From '75-'81. But the '77 show at The Palldium, with Terry, Patrick and Adrian was the end all for me, was at all six shows. Glad to see Deeezil carrying on the tradition.

I got pegged as a "Geddy fan" by a long-time, of-old local bass player mentor after he heard my playing in a recording, so the influence is definitely prominent. I wouldn't have said so, but so much for self-knowledge. I'm happy to be the player I am.

Generally thunderbirds are very punk, and hard Rock/metal, UFO, Crue etc... So I'm not surprised there are some prominent rush haters on this thread.

I got pegged as a "Geddy fan" by a long-time, of-old local bass player mentor after he heard my playing in a recording, so the influence is definitely prominent. I wouldn't have said so, but so much for self-knowledge. I'm happy to be the player I am.

When I was a younger player, people used to call me 'Geddy'. Not always in a complimentary way... Like when a bandmate says: "Hey 'Geddy', why don't you calm down and stay in the pocket for a minute!"

Question to the group: What does a quality re-finish run for a t-bird? My '06 is the standard sunburst scheme and while I love the bass, I am not digging the color.

Mine were between $500.00 or so with Marty Bell to about 1000.00 thru Mike Lull - he uses Michael Dolan if I recall correct.

I don't appreciate fanboys who play the 'hater' card if someone expresses an opinion of their idol that's at variance with their hero worship.

It must be my lack of a sense of humor.

Sounds right to me. As a side note Michael Dolan built the neck for my resurrected NR.

I think that's about right, Mark. Refins are a lot of work, especially set or neck throughs. I have a loaded Fneder type body coming for a refin. I'm charging $300 including return shipping, disassembly/reassembly.

I charged $300 plus shipping for this 'restoration'. The jack had broken thru the top and it had some other issues. I'd charge at least double now. Consolation was I got to experience the last bass John Entwistle was involved in designing!

Super cool! That is the result when a T-bird and a Jazz bass has a baby!

Except it's a 1-3/4" wide at the brass nut, 16mm spacing at the brass bridge. There's very little taper on the no trussrod carbon fibre/composite, zero relief neck with very big radius fretboard. By that time JAE knew exactly what he wanted...and how to get it!

Now if he'd just avoided that killer hooker.

Brass. I polished the bridge and changed out all the other hardware for gold. Although not my preference I'm pretty sure JAE would have approved.

I think everything is funny, including people who get bent because I don't like what they do. It's the flip side of no sense of humor. And, I don't like Rush. I can respect them. I can appreciate how good the were at what they did. I just don't want to listen to them.

That is indeed a very unique neck with those specs. The luthier who makes my necks (Dan Ransom/SF) built one of the 1st buzzard necks (to his specs) and when he saw JAE with an entourage at the following NAMM show he said he saw Dan walking toward him and as he neared him he only said "neck has to be fatter" and walked on. He later reconnected and spent some time hanging with him.
