Thunderbird Club

Cool idea, but if the player(s) used their usual distortion, o/d, etc., how would you know?
Wouldn’t matter. It would just be a cool back story to read which musician selected which instrument to record what song and how different or similar that instrument sounded in their hands vs a different players hands.

Keeping it classy @Seattle Lighting today!

I don't usually dress at work - it takes a long time to get ready. I did today because it's Seattle's Pride march day.
Even so, that's so great you can be yourself at work.

I get the need for a museum but it's still a shame those instruments can't be played. I mean, they're not like an ancient ruin that could crumble in your hands...
I agree. To have and store has a place, and I get it. But it also seems important for most vintage instruments to live in the wild and be played and enjoyed more than by starring at them. There are some places and situations I wouldn't take some of my nice 50s and 60s basses, but that are a few exceptions. I have them to play. That's the enjoyment for me, not just saying I have "X" bass.

You go, Gloria Steinem! Burn that bra!
I saw a clip of the IQ Reduction Show Woopie Goldberg is on and she felt compelled to tell everyone she didn't wear underwear. Could have lived without knowing that. So, having said that, whatever happens in California in this respect, I don't need to know.

That was a favorite of my Dad's as well. And flopper stoppers.

This is why Thunderbirds need good cases. You don't want them flopping around as was true with the original 60s cases.
Mine had a little leather strap that held the neck in place pretty well. Unfortunately, the case itself got busted at one end being schlepped to the gig(s) 6 nights a week for 7 1/2 years.:(

Ok, NR from Rosser ordered.
I’ll get my specs together for a Warmoth neck order next.
It’s so tempting to get one of those 77 dollar necks on eBay but I’m pretty sure I’ll be disappointed.
The dirt cheap necks on eBay can be a real crapshoot. I bought a used flame maple neck at about $125 for my BlingBird and after refinishing it, it’s a beautiful neck. I bought a $95 Wenge/Wenge neck for my NR ‘60’s Tribute build and had to do a complete fret level job on it. On one of my earlier builds (North PMJ5) I used a $400 Warmoth rosewood/rosewood neck and it was fantastic (but heavy) right out of the box.

$95 eBay neck after I did a lot of fret leveling and reshaped the headstock (under $100 all in)…

$125 neck after an additional $300 was spent to roll the edges, cure the sprout, reshape the headstock and refinish it (about $425 all in)

Something to keep in mind when buying a neck - you might pay a bit more up front for a rosewood or Wenge or other similar wood neck that does not require a finish, but it may end up being cheaper than the finishing costs of a typical maple neck. Also, if you go warmoth consider graphite stiffening rods to lighten up the neck a bit and spec tuner holes compatible with Hipshot or Goto light weight tuners to further lighten the neck.

Soon you will find out, whether you like it or not.

Awesome info, thanks!
Do you have build threads for those?
I’m planning on Danish oil for a finish after making a bathroom cabinet using it.

While an Ampeg head fan, I've never played one of those. I've heard many great things about the 210 cabs. Have you ever played one of the newer Portaflex heads, and if so, do they sound anything alike?
Nope, out of my price range so on the hunt for a B-100r which is said to be as close as you can get to a B-15.
