Depending on the EB, it's the same thing...
I had never heard of those. I'm considering Black Beauties as the next experiment if Hi-Beams aren't quite right. Finding the right strings for a bass isn't usually this challenging. It's not like it sounds bad, it just seems like it could sound even better and more versatile if it got the right strings. If I could get the 2015 to be as magical as the 2001, it would be a good day.
Volume is a funny thing. I play whatever volume is necessary, which means blisteringly loud sometimes, but not very often. All my fussing over what it sounds like is probably irrelevant in a dive bar anyway. Nobody in those audiences knows or cares what the bass sounds like so long as it hits 'em all in the gizzard and makes women in the audience want to dance.
Beats me. It's just how they are made. I think it's got something to do with tension, but I really don't know. What I do know is that if you don't put a good kink in the string before you trim the end, you can have 'em go dead right away. Putting a 90 degree kink for winding purposes is what I do anyway, so now I just do that as a matter of habit when putting on new strings.
Well the Cobalt "G" string would make a good cheese cutter. Put a 9 volt battery on the "D" string and you can use it to cut styrofoam. The "A" string could be donated to our Queen who might find a use for it on the model rail road set. And the "E" string could be used as fishing leader if you decide to go Sturgeon, Pike or Garr fishing.
Also truth be told what I have is enough for what I do and need. But whenever is enough actually enough.

I have one of the Fender Modern Player Telecaster basses and suspect it wouldn't be far off the sound of a dual Humbucker Gibson with the neck Humbucker up against the neck heel and a matching bridge Humbucker all the way down near the bridge. Up until I got my 2013 EB 5 string this Fender was my go to bass for reggae and club dub type music. Ultra low, grunt type tones from the neck and strong low mid punch from the bridge. The only reason the EB replaced it was because of the low B string.
We've now had almost two months of rain here in SoCal after nearly a 6 year draught. Water was being rationed and landscape water bans and car wash bans were starting to go into effect. Hopefully this much needed rain will ease if not end the draught.
