Thunderbird Club

There a city in Peru called Arequipa, you can sit on the common during the day in 70-75 degree weather and look at snow on the mountains 5 - 10 miles away.
I recall sledding in the mountains of New Mexico, freezing our butts off, then sliding down sand dunes at White Sands an hour or two later, frying in the hot sun.

Yeah, or several ideas and hopefully some new ideas will pop up too.
I tracked some drums today at the rehearsal space. Very simple stuff with a crappy sound on purpose. Rundgren-early 70's style so the drums are very compressed and almost distorted. I doubletracked the part. It's not easy to play that slow but at least it's easy for me to play with me! :D

Sounds like a good start for a typical PhR75 song:thumbsup:. Do you use a click track to keep the tempo?

Like the Peacemaker and Hustler? Loved those, along with the Dagger and Dart. I have always wanted to see and tour a Peacemaker.
saw the one at the AF museum in Akron….it’s massive….you walk and walk and walk and it still there….the rear landing gear is made up of one massive tire per strut (one strut per wing) that must be at least 12ft in diameter….piloting that thing must have been one heck of an experience…..interestingly, post active service and before cable tv they were used as repeater stations for better tv programming signal coverage….. interesting plane…Liberators were cool too…..ugly, but in a cool way….

If I’m looking at the pics correctly, it looks like your NR bridge pickup is much closer to the neck than the VP pickup was, by almost a cm. That’s a pretty huge move for a bridge pickup and could certainly thicken things up on that pup.

It's about 1, 4 cm closer to the neck vs. VP's. But remember that the VP's bridge pickup is closer to the bridge than the "exact" 60's location (if such thing exists). My Telebird (pictured below) has both pickups approx. in the sixties locations and it's bridge pickup is about 0,4 cm closer to the bridge vs. the non-Rev.

The neck pickup locations on each bass aren’t as different. The NR looks to be about a half a cm closer to the neck which will make it a bit warmer as well but probably not as drastic as the bridge pup change.

It's 0,8 cm (I should have written the measurements in my post, sorry about that). Again the VP's neck pickup is a bit closer to the bridge than the 60's location and if I recall correctly, the custom built non-reverse had it's neck pickup placement measurements taken from my '76 Gibson. I thought at that time it was the same as the '60's but I've come a long way after that...:)
And again, the red Tele is somewhere between those two, it's neck PU is 0,4 cm closet to the bridge vs. the non-rev.

You might want to experiment with some different string types. I’d imagine that bridge pup could be easily coaxed into a raging grind in that location.

The non-rev has currently D'addario Pro Steels. After they're gone I think I'll put my usual EXL's to it. The thing is that the nearest music store is about 150 km's away (a big bummer) and I really can't afford to buy any other strings than those I know that just work in my every bass (Ric, P, 2 Jazzes, 3 Teles, Aria fretless, two 'birds, Stingray and two 12-strings).

I'm also happy that all my 'bird related basses have something different in the pickup location department. What's the point of owning like 3 T-Birds that sound the same? *did I just said that? The coffee hasn't kicked in yet it seems*:D

Thanks! Yes, 'though on this one when I overdubbed the drums I mostly listened to the keyboards and the bass so it's "there somewhere". :D Luckily it sounds alright without the click and I may play the bass again to match it better with the drums.
Of course I could use a proper drummer but it's sometimes easier to do it yourself than to say to a pro drummer to "play it sloppy, like a Nick Mason with a hangover and broken wrist".

I love Nick Mason's playing, BTW.

I know it's a cliche but 'birds of a feather:

*now the Killing Joke song plays in my head*

The natural Tele-P with TB+ has the bridge pickup in the VP location and the neck pickup is about half a centimeter closer to the bridge vs. VP.
Hmm, doesn't this mean I also need a modern 'bird as their neck pickups are closer to the neck than on any other 'bird I own? I think the answer is yes. Maybe after I have restored the broken VP.

Greetings T-bird lovers! Hope your all having a fantastic morning!

Quick update and asking for guidance.....
I decided to keep the bridge on my T-bid to cover/fill the holes that were in it after the original modifications. I got it powder coated black to match the original 3-point bridge I put it back on and I think it turned out pretty nice. (Please ignore the finger smudges, its hot and humid down here)

I realize the string alignment isn't perfect but neither is my bass playing.

I also added a Goth T-bird to my small collection. All black is really cool but I'm not crazy about the pickguard. Eventually, I might swap it out for a custom black with white T-bird on it. The symbols dont get any better than the original to me.

I want to replace the strings on both and do a complete setup on them. Any suggestions on strings for each one?

Now you’ve gone and done it. Let the next round of string wars begin. Oh, the real answer is anything with purple silks.

Anymore yes, than can be really long and the equipment has gotten very large in the last 20 years. 12,000hp in the first shot, 24,000hp in the middle pic, just stay some distance back!
Yeah. And 2 people operating the whole shootin' match.
EDIT: Oops! Posted b4 seeing V's answer.

Thanks, Miles! I know they only have so much life, and was never sure at what point of standby time it's just better to just turn it off.

I've only had a problem once turning an amp off of standby and I had left it on standby for at least an hour, I had bought a used SVT and never checked the tubes, it blew a resistor in the output stage so most likely bad tubes, I changed the whole set after that, IIRC. But that's the only time in 50 years I had a problem. I've commonly left them on standby during breaks. I usually wait about a minute before turning them off of standby when I first turn them on.
