Thunderbird Club

Neil's poetical sensitivities and spontaneous composing are amazing! Yep, ya gotta love Neil.

I used to imbibe a bit myself. Owsley made it all he way to Massachusetts. I do really like Neil though.
Bob. Come out to the GTG. You’re in Mass for awhile, right? Take Jet Blue to SFO. Fly Mint, and there is a good chance you’ll meet my daughter.

Let’s do this!

I'd love to but am starting work next week. When is it though?
08/04 to 08/06. Dinner the night of 08/04 to kick it off. 08/05 checking out the vintage shop Chucky posts pics from, then to his place for a Tri-Tip BBQ feast and Thunderbirds. Chucky has a winery gig Sunday that we’re all gonna crash. Many of us are coming in Fridaday and heading out Monday AM.

We are doing final tweaks on our 16 recorded songs for our upcoming TSC's LP - I met with Robert at Get Reel to get my bass better in the mix of Pauls instrumental "Fire In the Hole". Since we mic'd my B15N and d.i.'d it we were able to favor the clean d.i. signal to get more clarity. It finally sounds like the way I want to hear it. It's such a rockin' tune. :bassist:

Excellent Geo!

Dig it! But why do you use an old amp when there are plenty of nice new amps to choose from?;):D

I love getting into the weeds dealing with recording with Robert - he is so knowledgable and understands what we are aiming at - he gets it. Once I made clear what I was after - he nailed it. The bass tone prior to changing was less distinct, and the amp favored output (which had the tremolo pedal on it) was a bit wooly. It sounded really good, but it just wasn't ideal for that particular song. Once he favored the clean d.i. tone with enough of the amp/tremolo to be present - the sky opened up. Paul wants to re-do lyrics on one of his songs from our first session w/Robert from 2020. Should be fairly easy.

Here's Pauls song from '20 - we still play it and it always rocks - it was penned/recorded pre-Covid, a bit of a related anthem in retrospect.

explaining to someone who has never been out of FL that it’s possible to look at snow capped mountains while diving through the desert always warrants a “deer in the headlights” look….

you’d confuse me also

Is Fridaday the day set aside for Abba covers?

I know Arequipa, “
There a city in Peru called Arequipa, you can sit on the common during the day in 70-75 degree weather and look at snow on the mountains 5 - 10 miles away.
i know Arequipa “la ciudad blanca” made of lava from the adjacent Misty(i?) volcano….got my passport stolen in Ilo (there with my dad who was doing work in the silver mines) and had to drive to Arequipa to fly back to Lima where the US embassy was…beautiful city…

I've had really good results with direct to board recording. A nice preamp in the input helps.

Yes, that is a fact - our first session in '20 I went totally direct with good results, but I like an adjustable blend of direct and mic'd amp. Gives you more to work with as this current tweak showed.

what did your dad do at Convair?….they (Consolidated) built some of my favorite bombers…
some cool warbirds at the airport….

Like the Peacemaker and Hustler? Loved those, along with the Dagger and Dart. I have always wanted to see and tour a Peacemaker.

Question for Chuck or anyone who wants to chime in: On Sundays we do a quick run through of the songs for that day just to make sure we're on the same page and what we worked on Wed still works. I put my Ampeg V-4BH in standby for a little over an hour till time to play. I always thought it would be better for the tubes to just stay warm. But, for that length of time would be be better for them to be off and warm back up? Doesn't seem right to me, but some of you know more of the technical reasons for which is best and can conform my practice or correct the thinking.
I’ll just note that the most common tube death is a filament popping when voltage hits it when the amp is turned on.
