Unfortunately I don't have a video clip of John playing this bass but the bass player from Hootie and the Blowfish had one of the other five Rainsongs made and used it on an MTV Unplugged video. It was an outdoor venue with off and on light rain showers. The Rainsong was the only guitar on stage that stayed in tune, all the others had to be tweaked between songs.
Here's the clip...

Thanks for the post GBass. Absolutely awesome!

And you can sod off posting pictures of that again too!!! You miserable tease you!!!!!

Me jealous? No way, what would the worlds biggest JAE fan want with one of his old basses? Especially one with near pornographic pictures on it

Seriously, nice
Yes sir, sodding off again sir.;)

So I suppose you don't want to see any pictures of my Alembic bass model that was being custom built for John (as a stylistic take on his Buzzard bass) but he sadly passed away before it was finished. In tribute, Alembic named the bass "Tears for John".

Like you I'm a huge fan of Entwistle. I would love to someday have an exact duplicate of his Fender Bird as will as a Status Graphite Buzzard bass. Or maybe combine the two into a modern take on the Fenderbird with a graphite body.

I know this is the Thunderbird Club, but will some nice person please measure the overall length and max width of their Epi EB3 (34") for me please?

Need to work out what to do with the hardshell case which is currently up for sale with the Italia. Somewhat surprisingly it's too short for my Bird (therefore certainly too short for an NRBird), therefore I want to know whether it is any use for a future EB3.

Can't decide. MXR Bass Chorus or TC Electronics Corona Chorus? I was leaning towards the MXR because it can also flange, but I read that the TCE can as well. That plus Toneprint makes the Corona really appealing. Do any of yas have a Corona to confirm that it'll chorusate AND flangeify? Anybody have any opinions on the thing?

The Teardrop is another bass with which I have a passing acquaintance. There's no comfortable sitting position in which to play them, which explains the photos of people holding them almost vertically.
Which is how I like bass guitars to be anyway, up to a point.

For what it's worth, I put Hi-Beams on the 2015 and played it last night at a rehearsal. I think those are the strings it needed all along. I still like Cobalt Flats a whole lot, just not on that one. They sound great on the '91 with Chinabuckers. When that bass gets the upgrade to Thunderbuckers, I'm not sure what strings it will want. I still don't know what strings are on the 2001. They will have to change someday, but for now, I don't want to disturb anything. The strings on my Precision have got to the point that they are so dead, even for flats, that they have to go. It's going to get Cobalt Flats shortly. It's an experiment to see what might go on the P-Bird when it's finally built. I got split P pickups for it, but they are rails, mostly because I just can't do normal all the way.

How are those chinabucker pups?

They are pretty good. Not as clear or as well defined as Thunderbuckers, but better than the stock pickups. Well, mostly because they have chrome covers, and I couldn't take apart the pickups that were on the '91 without screwing them up. Chinabuckers are an OK alternative, but having lived with them for a while, I think they are not going to be on the bass forever. It's just a matter of prioritizing all the projects I have floating around the house.

I got me a T-Bird (Epi)- Fender guy for 30 years, it took a while to get used to the neck, but I like it - relocated the strap buttons and it's good to go. I have no desire to "Fenderbird" this one. View attachment 1057932

Lovely Pelham (thet's it!) Blue 'Bird there, shall I add you to the club?

I have a TC Corona but do not have a lot of experience with other pedals. I can tell you that it is freaking awesome. I play a lot of Cure and New Order and it does the job swimmingly.

I like them. Many say not as good as Thunderbuckers. I have no complaints. Certainly worth the effort of installing them in my 2008 Gibson TBird.
If they are the pickups that Epiphone are going to use in their new vintage pros, when they become available in July, it will be a real plus.

I just beamed the SCF toneprint to my Corona and it sounds whooshy. Didn't play with it at all cos I don't want to wake anyone.

The TC pedals are fantastic, the toneprint idea is sharp as a box of knives.

If I was putting together a guitar pedal board, it would be all TC apart from the EHX Cockfight (Ronno-in-a-box) - MojoMojo OD, looper, delay, reverb...
