I have a graphite acoustic electric bass from 1997 that has the original strings on it and has only been tuned a couple of times in the last 15 years.
It's a Rainsong bass that was originally custom built for John Entwistle and still has the string set he put on back in 1997. Rainsong only built a total of about 6 basses before they decided to focus completely on guitars. John's was the only one of the six that was built to custom specs. It holds its tuning unbelievably well, plays beautifully and looks stunning.

Edit - a graphite TBird would be way cool!

Unfortunately I don't have a video clip of John playing this bass but the bass player from Hootie and the Blowfish had one of the other five Rainsongs made and used it on an MTV Unplugged video. It was an outdoor venue with off and on light rain showers. The Rainsong was the only guitar on stage that stayed in tune, all the others had to be tweaked between songs.

Me jealous? No way, what would the worlds biggest JAE fan want with one of his old basses? Especially one with near pornographic pictures on it

Story goes that Bill Wyman never liked the Vox teardrop even if they did offer it as a signature bass. He did like the Fender Mustang, and played it vertically. The vertical playing position was more about playing it like an upright. Early on he used a hollow-body Framus and later used a Vox Astro (violin bass) and may have used the Vox Sidewinder IV but since he favored short-scale basses probably not.

Unlike the UK Phantom which weighs 8 lbs on the nose and balances great. (My '64 on the bottom with Cataldo clone on top)

The Italian ones are another story, very light body, pencil neck, and dive city.

Me and ThunderBucker the day in '74 when we found these two hanging side by side in a music store in Tampa...had to have them!
