GC had a slightly ratty one for $150 or so a few years ago. I took a pretty hard look at it. The guy behind the counter didn't know what it was. I made the mistake of telling him. I think he bought it, because it was gone the next day, not that I needed another Thunderbird at the time. Still, for that price, it was tough to pass by.

Yep. I was in the basement pretty much that entire heat wave. Or in the van, which has A/C. A/C at work couldn't keep up, either. The Thunderbirds live in the basement and were quite comfortable.

I have started using heavy Dunlop picks lately. I forget what they are, exactly, but they feel almost like cardboard, as far as texture goes. I don't think they are, since they last pretty well, but they are easy to grip even when they get sweated on. They are purple, for what that's worth. Purple silks are tone silks, so purple picks can't hurt.

My soldering iron sat on that glob of solder holding the back of the pickup together for a good ten minutes. Time for a new (hotter) one. I should have a replacement iron tonight and do plan on pulling it apart.

I’ve got a new project rehearsal tonight, so timing really depends on Amazon at this point. I’ll post up once I’ve opened it up.

I did put an order into Jason Lollar for a neck pickup. I hate to be down to just a single TBird, so I have a plan A & B. I’ll leave the bridge pickup OEM.

It might be easier to cut the solder with a dremel. I have had success repairing resoldering the lead on a PU before. Please take pics of the insides when you get it apart. Good luck!

Unfortunately it looks to have broken off flush with the housing/bobbin, and I think I’d have to do more butchering to figure out how to tap back into that coil.

If I’m thinking of this wrong, let me know.
