Thunderbird Club

Is it even legal to play a Thunderbird without a pick? I think you may be facing seizure of your Thunderbird and club expulsion!

While I play with a pick when I’m noodling around, I am pretty much a finger style only player. I find that ‘til I master palm muting, I can’t play with a pick on most sounds the way I play them without some extra noise from the open strings going on. Finger style just automatically mutes most strings and when it doesn’t it’s easier to mute with the other two fingers I don’t “pluck” with. Plus, it’s just the way I started and have always played. Thanks Steve Harris and Geddy…

Dang. My NR neck pickup got very quiet at a gig. Just got around to looking at it. I’m guessing that little wire should be attached inside the pickup. :banghead:

I have Lollars in my Reverse, but I didn’t feel a need to do that replacement on the NR, until now. Maybe just the neck pickup.

Anyway, we made a Korean BBQ dinner, so that made up for this little sadness.

Enjoy your week! :hyper:

FWIW I would take that pickup apart and try to resolder the wire, you have nothing to lose at this point.

Stock animal. I have to say that I really like these pickups a lot, they've certainly worked very well in my VP!

Nice eats!

If you decide to switch out both pickups, I have a good home waiting for the undamaged pickup.

I do use a pick when the song calls for it. Maybe I can get by with a warning and probation.. :)

Picks are easy to find on stage. The two guitar players each have a whole string of them on their mike stands.
I just mosey on over and snag one while I'm pretending to say Hi
Hey think I need to try that! I tend to drop mine unless they are small ones! I use them in the punk band I’m in. We play fast and my dexterity is off at times, they get wet if it’s really hot out!

Agree!! Thank you! I love how these OEMs sound. My 2018 OEMs had to be replaced straight away, in comparison.

My soldering iron sat on that glob of solder holding the back of the pickup together for a good ten minutes. Time for a new (hotter) one. I should have a replacement iron tonight and do plan on pulling it apart.

I’ve got a new project rehearsal tonight, so timing really depends on Amazon at this point. I’ll post up once I’ve opened it up.

I did put an order into Jason Lollar for a neck pickup. I hate to be down to just a single TBird, so I have a plan A & B. I’ll leave the bridge pickup OEM.

Thanks! We had a great meal. I had a bit of a BBQ overdose, but it was worth it.

I’ll be keeping the OEM pups for now. I’ve got an idea for a build and, assuming I can repair the one, I’ll be using both in there. But I do appreciate the comment and agre they’re great sounding pups.

Kinda like this…

Fast forward to 4:30…

Laguna Seca historic Trans Am races held every year during car week in Monterey, this year it’s the weekend after the GTG.

I remember the silver Tempest. It wasn't especially competitive by the time my dad took me to MidOhio, but it was out there. So was a Dodge Dart, which was a backmarker, but it was out there, too. The racing wasn't as tight in the late '60s and early '70s. The lime yellow Challenger was out there as well. I don't recall it being especially competitive, but it sure was loud.

When the green flag waved, the sound was like a 747 taking off. It was inspiring.

As I revisited Who's Next today I was again reminded how great John's bass sounded during that 1971-1973 era. On stage of course but especially on studio recordings. As we know at that time he used mainly T-Birds and Fenderbirds and Sunn amps and cabs. Those who have the silverface Coliseum amp from the early seventies: is there any secret in those how to get that slightly barking (in a good way) Entwistle roar? Which mid frequency to boost for example? Or is there any secrets? Do they sound like that when set flat and played Entwistle -style with a certain kind of a T-Bird?

Just for fun I tried to get into that ballpark with my non-rev and pedalboard. I slightly boosted 1,2 khz and had an overdrive in a loop mixed with low passed cleans.

Drat. But good call. The BaCH will very likely be getting a chrome Lollar Bridge pickup.

tragic....tell me more, Go-Pack? motor? tranny? they look nicer (imho) in that color than do the AMX's...

Given a choice, I would want a first generation AMX with a small block and a four speed. I don't remember the size of an AMC small block, but my brother had one. It scared the crap out of him, but I sure enjoyed it. It was a rocket, and unlike a whole lot of pony cars, it really handled well straight from the factory. His was oxidized red with black stripes, as I recall. The seats had springs poking out, which wasn't great, but when you are a kid, you don't notice so much. It's bizarre to think that it was only about 12 to 15 years old when he had it. My Camaro was about 12 years old when I got it. A 15 year old car isn't generally as ratted out as either of those cars were back then.

It got to 106 or so a while ago in Seattle. None of us could handle it. Very few houses have A/C up here.

Mine does! That was just another comfortable day! :D
I was inside, playing the bass!

what color was the spyder? love that little motor…
My dad had an orange Fiat Spyder. That was a fun car to drive when I was 16 or 17 and my TR-2 didn't run (which was pretty common). When I bought the Camaro, the idea was that it would be a larger, more reliable, more practical (yeah, right) version of a classic roadster like a Fiat or Triumph.
