While I was there overseeing the file collection and armored vehicle loading at the dock a couple of bullets wizzed past my head and took out some windows near me. Fortunately no one was hit and my security detail who were armed secured the property perimeter until the police could arrive.

I was moved to the security office with some of the building guards watching the close circuit cameras for potential shooters and there was a TV on in the room showing the Challenger launch. Watching the disaster in real time was gut wrenching and completely took our focus off of the security issue on site.

I was working construction at the time. We were doing an office building (not a high rise), and went to a convenient store for some coffee and something to eat and everyone was acting weird. I finally asked what was up and they related what had happened.

Mine was Pink Floyd - DSOTM
I already had two DSOTM LPs that were wearing out and a cassette that was starting to suffer from flutter. CD media at the time was marketed as far superior in sound quality to LP or cassette tapes and nearly indestructible. I found the DSOTM CD to be much more hifi than my LPs, but probably mostly due to the wear and tear the LPs suffered from years of abuse.

CD purchases that quickly followed were:
Genesis- Abacab
Lionel Richie - Dancing on the Ceiling
Queen - Greatest Hits
Grover Washington - Limelight
Glenn Miller - In the Digital Mood

Not sure. There was some promotion going on so my mate Jose and I went in to town for a look. It was the start of cds pricing dropping if I remember correctly. I bought about 20 of the things. Got home and the then girlfriend (now wife) asked about them seeing as we didn’t have a cd player…. I said “Jose is a bad influence”. :laugh:
Then said, but I will have a cd player at some stage and will be set for cds when we do.
I think I got 3 or 4 Pink Floyd’s, about the same for Led Zepp, the White Album, a couple of Rolling Stones best of’s, and other greatest hits things - Foreigner for one.

I ended up buying a Denon cd player and amplifier pretty soon after, then some little Mordaunt Short speakers, which all added to the various stuff I already had.

Got to work and everybody was talking about it. TVs were set up and the news reports were fairly constant.

My Warmoth roasted maple/rosewood neck came this week. I’ve never had a roasted maple anything and the thing that surprised me the most is the SMELL!!! It’s like coffee/burnt sugar/ vanilla. Incredible.

I just had my Denon fixed.
I’ve got a heap of cd’s and I’ve missed playing them through the system. it helped the decision that it wasn’t hugely expensive. But I had to drive about 50kms to find someone. Helped that I kinda knew the area he was in so I was confident to find the shop.

I saw the Maniacs open for REM on the Fables of Reconstruction tour, was awesome. She actually fell offstage, and went away for about 10min, then came back and finished set on crutches, lol.
I saw the Diesel and Dust tour in Nashville, no kidding, probably one of the best live performances i've ever seen, they had soooo much energy and nailed the songs, but not in a boring note for note fashion....miss those days... Oh and first CD was Let's Active, Big Plans for Everybody. 1986, still a great album today.

Natalie’s thing, aside from her incredible voice, was her spinning. She was fun to watch.
