Thunderbird Club

OK, I have time after all. We started dating shortly after that. I was in 11th grade, she was in 10th. By April, she was hinting at marriage. By early May she was talking seriously about us both dropping out of school and getting married. She started pushing, and when it was clear she wasn't taking no for an answer, I called it quits as nicely as I knew how. Within a few days her friends were calling me and sending notes via mutual friends saying she was suicidal and it was all my fault. My friends helped keep me in a good headspace, but it still sucked. Late July (I think) I hadn't heard anything in a month so I chanced riding by on my motorcycle. When I got there she was walking to a hopped up Mustang with a fierce, redneck looking guy who clearly wanted to know who I was and what I wanted. (I was by now dressing like a hippie and obviously looking for her.) She introduced me as "a friend" and him as her "new husband; we got married last week." "Cool. I just wanted to drop by and say hi. Looks like y'all are going somewhere, so I won't keep you." I rode off.

Never heard from or of her again. I can't recall her last name. Her family was impoverished, she was expected to take care of her several younger siblings and the house, and her parents were miserable and shared it. I felt bad for her but wasn't about to drop out of school to get married. She found her ticket out and I was history, and that's OK. I hope her life improved and she found happiness. I have to admit, the obvious jealousy and anger on her new husband's face didn't impress me. 8^(
That's actually a fairly scary situation. I hope she's OK.

What did a new Gibson Thunderbird cost in '85 ? I'll sit down so I don't fall over when you tell me
It's a '76 Bicentennial. I got it almost new in '77. The owner of my local music store said I had to have one. The former owner of the Bird could not adjust to it and happened to trade it in the day before I visited the store for strings.
I had purchased a new '75 tuxedo P bass from this store previously. The owner of the store took that bass in trade with a $100 bump from me.
If not for his insistence back in '77 I don't know if I would have gravitated into the T-Bird world. I guess it was meant to be.
Before that I was a stone cold 4001 fan.

Cheers!

Surprisingly-to me-this is still available:
[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
Not surprisingly, I still can't afford it.:banghead:
Addendum: Only way would be to sell the 67.
Nope.
Plus, it would hafta have SIT Power Flats or EBCF's.:bag:
If it was a reverse, I would be tempted. It sure is beautiful.

A friend of mine had a brother who moved in with his English teacher when he was in 10th grade. Was in Nashville, don't remember how it turned out, but crazy never the less....
When my son was in about third grade, the school put on a class for parents. We thought it was a PTA meeting, and my wife decided I was going. OK. It turned out it was a demonstration science class, and I got paired up with a young, new, and very pretty second grade teacher. The whole thing was a simple experiment about genetics and generations. My assigned partner and I got into it a little too much. That's as close as I ever got to being tangled up with a teacher. She sure was cute and sure was having a lot more fun that was really intended.

More on Sabbath. I found all but Paranoid. I bought it when I was in 7th grade (‘70/‘71), or 8th grade, so it should be an original pressing. It’s either misfiled, at the other place, or my son did something with it. I hope he didn’t loose it. Who knows. I’ll post it later if I find it.

The first:

It's the "experiment about genetics and generations" that has me wondering what the actual physical science component of the "experiment" actually involved.

Vote for my song!
https://distrokid.com/spotlight/oman21/vote/

It's a list of my distributor so it's not one of those "get million streams and billion followers" bs.
Who knows, if the songs gets to be a hit I can buy T-birds for the whole gang!:D
Your song was hands down better than the “Loser” song. Vote gladly cast.

I feel it's quite versatile. When I play with a pick or fingers ,I t's hard to get a bad sound out of it. But I do slap a lot, and its when I switch between the two in the say the same song it's the problem, usually with trying to tame the boom and find something that works with both is where I'm having the issue as where I wouldn't have it on say unlike a jazz bass, but then I lose that great thunderbird tone.
I’m not a slapper, so can’t really offer any insight. However, I can steer you towards @Chucky Stiletti here in the club who does slap on stage and has probably dealt with your situation. He might have some tips for unique string selections or EQ settings that solve the problem. He’s always willing to help, PM him and see what he says. I know that in addition to his thunderbirds he also uses Jazz and P basses, so maybe that’s what he’s slapping on IDK.

You’re a year older than me. Where did the idea of dropping out of school and getting married come from? No one did that at my high school..
It happened in my HS but mostly because of an unplanned pregnancy. Two of my friends went that route. Neither marriage lasted more than a couple of years. I know at least one of them went back for their GED.
In my HS senior year I was engaged to a Junior from another school. She turned out to be a mental case (like her parents and her sister) so we broke it off after I graduated, but I was stalked for a solid two years afterwards and had to have bouncers at my wedding carry her off the premises when she tried to crash the ceremony. After that I moved out of state and she lost track of me. Forty years later I still had real reservations moving back to CA because of her (violent psycho). It’s one of the reasons I moved to SoCal and not back to the Bay Area.

Very cool! Now you are known for something other than being an amazing musician!

I was asked to do a blurb for book once. Then it wasn't used.... (Found a well known person in that discipline who actually said less of anything meaningful than I did!) So good on you!
