So dumb question. Is Carlo still building? I thought I saw a post where he was retiring. His website is still up. If he is still at it, I may put an order in.

I'm in no hurry, but I'd love to have one of his Thunderbirds. I figure I've got about a year of my current income before I go into retired senior mode and won't have the cash to spend on Thunderbirds like a drunken sailor anymore.

Hope I didn't miss too much. A couple questionable days with Grady and had to skip a few pages. Thought today might be the day we would have to say good bye. The vet looked him over and while his tumor is getting big and looks awful, she was not concerned. We were afraid it was going to rupture or just be to that point needing a decision after a couple days of him not feeling too good. She checked him out and said he's actually in great shape considering his age and issues and said we didn't need to me making any decisions today. We spent yesterday afternoon and this morning thinking we would not be bringing him home--and not sleeping last night. He had a great day once we got home! She said everyone there knows Grady and his reputation for his will to live!

Anyway, bass related, I'm really enjoying the '81 L1k (G&L II in Thunderbird lingo). Maybe too much. This pass sounds fantastic. The OMG position is just that. Sounds so massive it's tempting to use it all the time.

Don't know if it's the case for all Epis, but the 2-point HS Supertone I got off the locals doesn't fit mine, it's just not wide enough to fit in the mounting holes.

If you want a chrome Hipshot 3 point, I have one. With extra screws and springs to make it intonate. Gibson and Epi bolts. I didn't care for it at all and put the stock bridge back on the Tbird that I bought it for. Others say they're great, but it wasn't for me. I've kept it thinking I might find a use for it. But realistically, I'd rather go with Babicz if I'm replacing a TBird bridge. PM me if you're interested.

Carlo told me he was moving to New Orleans to be near family. Not sure if he is setting up a shop there or not. Keep an eye out on Reverb, etc for a used one. They do turn up occasionally. I highly recommend buying one if you have the opportunity.

G&L's are the undisputed kings of pro bass. Other brands offer very good variants - but the L-1000 & L-2000 are hands down the Swiss army knife of basses -

That was at his 50th B-day party at a Marin (Mill Valley to be exact) venue called Sweetwaters. (not the on-line guitar gear store) I'd seen him once before in downtown SF at a private party... super friendly guy and a monster player! When I grow up I want to be Bobby Vega! :bassist: I had to look up Doug Rauch - what's the connection?
