Where's the frets?Maybe because there's a sort of misunderstanding that an expensive, exotic bass will make one a better player and once the buyer realizes that isn't the case - they sell it and return to playing their non-boutique bass. It also depends on how one thinks of the term "boutique". There are basses in all price-ranges, from cheap to expensive but not necessarily 'boutique'. Terms like "pro-level" may be a better handle for a bass like a Sadowski and/or Lull that is not really exotic, but is more pricy and used by many pro's.
This is an exotic boutique bass in all respects. (Ritter) Will it make you a better player? Will you play it at your local blues dive? ah.., no on both counts.

Cracked? Shattered is a better description. It might make a good starting point for a Fenderbird with a bit of judicious application of power tools.

That's what I felt seeing it. I mean...yah, it could go under the knife and be made whole again - but for a bass in that price range unless you DIY, it would cost way more than the bass to have a pro do it. Having said that, being that they are such good basses - if one had luthier skills, it would be worth a project fixing it for oneself. Meaning, it wouldn't 'fetch' much/enough resold even if fixed correctly. I could see it being a good bass for a budding luthier to develop their skills.
I'm with you there. Just not my thing. Give me some Limburger on a cracker any day. But not for desert.
Last weekend I was hanging out with some sturgeon and juvenile sandbar sharks. Big fun.
