Don’t have any idea yet. If I could find a beater Epi IV, that would be the place to start. I’m not sure what else is available. It’ll be a retirement project.

Some of these cats play theirs out, or at least some of them. I guess if you have 5-20 $5K and up basses, it's no big deal if one gets messed up on a gig? These aren't big names with roadies playing ampitheatres. As GP says, tweach...

He's asking $200. If he'll ship it for that, it's worth picking up. I thought briefly about doing that, and cutting a pocket for a '57 Precision shaped bolt-on neck. And then I thought better of it because I already have enough unfinished projects around the house.

Maybe because there's a sort of misunderstanding that an expensive, exotic bass will make one a better player and once the buyer realizes that isn't the case - they sell it and return to playing their non-boutique bass. It also depends on how one thinks of the term "boutique". There are basses in all price-ranges, from cheap to expensive but not necessarily 'boutique'. Terms like "pro-level" may be a better handle for a bass like a Sadowski and/or Lull that is not really exotic, but is more pricy and used by many pro's.

This is an exotic boutique bass in all respects. (Ritter) Will it make you a better player? Will you play it at your local blues dive? ah.., no on both counts.

I don’t recall anyone mentioning them. I have been tempted to try the GHS contact core stainless rounds on a Thunderbird. Not sure if they would be too bright for the VP though.

bought a "re-licked" blem neck for super cheap off the reverb,,,

blem because it had some decent cracks at the tunas...

well it had been drilled for neck screws and those were way off, but I got it cheap enuff and it took 10 minutes to fix.

I'm not to into the re-licked stuff and I thought I'd have to refinish it, but I think it looks nice on my near pristine esquire..

Im just going to add a 7ender esquire decal and call it done…

Congratulations on a great bass. I had a set of exposed cores on one of my VPs for a while. No problems at all. Just requires string height adjustment. I like exposed cores for the E if nothing else. if worried about brightness, I would think that could be tamed by the tone knob or slight amp EQ. Depends on what you are playing through I suppose. No problem with warm Ampeg tube heads.

Too bad the hardware is black. Except for parts of the tuners. I have not seen tu-tone tuners before.
