Yeppers! It was the only viable option left if I wanted to use the Hipshot bridge I had.

Yeppers! Except the Greco claw solution creates a second issue with a three point bridge - the bridge will eventually slide backwards and mess up intonation because the strings aren’t pulling it forward. Not a big issue, takes 2 seconds to bump it back into position and is only needed a couple of times a year, but could be quite embarrassing if it fell off the bass during a gig. A string through option would probably work best with the three point since it provides a lot of down force.

String through with a three point bridge. Works great. Bridge never moves.

Another bonus on this particular bass is that, being a medium scale, the string through allows me touse long scale strings.

Dunno about that but the Esprit is one of my favorite movie cars

It just really appealed to my childhood Saturday morning "Super-car" fascination - a car that could do many things. I knew someone who owned one - it was a very cool car.

The Roger Moore years were the slapstick version of the Bond franchise - he was better as The Saint.

The best addressing of an inherently lacking design.

measuring this next….curious….Thunderbird for blues?….….

in trying to better understand a 3.3% (huge) error margin in pickup Rdc measurement methods in/out of circuit, I noticed the stings could be part of the culprit (the other being wiring I think)

the toy car points at pup (n or b) under measurement …any motion in any string (no surprise) adds noise to the measurement so in removing them I figured I address this problem as well….

talk about impeccable timing…..went to check the mail and found this…..:hyper:

I like I using the toy '59 Chevy for designations.

Really like these replacement bridge and tail piece sets - someone (forgotten who) mentioned that one good facet of the 3 points is the preset match to the fingerboard radius which prompts me to ask: is it possible to use the same size (thickness, as it were) bolts and same thread as the 3 points so it would be an option to just thread the original saddles on to the new replacement bridges? And I'm late to the party - who is Jeff/who makes these bridge/tailpiece sets, I thought it was hiwatt Scott but I really like the look of the tailpiece on this bass if it's different to his?
@TBird1958 my "local" pickup manufacturer (ie in the UK) has ordered me some Gold and Chrome pup covers/surrounds - just mulling over the Ceramic8/Alnico5 + 42/42.5AWG conundrum whilst waiting for them to arrive. One set is going on a bass I'm building to be 35" scale (bottom 4 of a 5 string set, + a D-tuner to go to drop-A) and I wondered if anyone has experience of the above pup options on low tuning, thinking clarity of pitch focus without losing hefty solid fundamental of the notes?

Hi. I've really been slacking in terms of following this thread. My only excuse is that I've been gigging. Me and my friend are doing daytime gigs in local schools and tge students and the teachers discuss the lyrics. The songs have been picked up by the students and the teachers and we interpret tgem as good as we can. Usually we play one of our own stuff as an encore and here's such example. The song is "Ohikulkija" by a band called Avaruusasema (which I'm not a member of but help them out on gigs and have written a couple of songs for). The original version hasn't been released yet.

I like that. But still requires soldering to the end of the barrel jack, right?

So far as I've found, typically yes.
Three wires.
It's actually a bit easier than hard-wiring, imo, since it can easily be done not on the bass.

Potentially, if you already had a three-wire jack connected to whatever the original setup was, you could just clip the wires with enough length left, and add the connectors to the correct wires. No soldering that way.....

I keep hoping to one day find a barrel jack with the connectors built-in, like the EMG jack has :(

yeah, interestingly closer inspection of the Badbird three point shows it could not work without a string through setup or a claw….this said, it’s design would prevent it from ever sliding back as potentially could happen on a Greco Bird setup….it also seems to lack curvature but that will be confirmed upon install…

Hopefully the lack of curvature won’t be an issue. Didn’t seem to be on the Bird it was on.
Keep us posted.
