Thunderbird Club

You didn't zoom in to hide this did you? Empty cans can cause that as well. :D

great post. no reason why a single pup bass with controls dimed should not give a fairly accurate Rdc reading this way assuming a good quality instrument cable…
yep….all with vol/tone dimed (as expected, tone shouldn’t make a difference and it doesn’t)…

Gibson's new EBO bass. Personally, I'd really like it if it wasn't another "gene" commemorative and the price was within reason!

Well, different from the T-bird, that EB-0 is based on something he actually used.

Back from wally world didn’t want to make a second trip…

I use $.50 acrylic airbrushed for color and finish with these…

not sure if I’m doing a white burst on the NR or something darker…

holy happy horsepoopie!

I have used this rustoleum clear shiny poly that goes on thick and it looks nice.

they were low when I stocked up so I bought some Krylon that looks similar accordion to the label....

This poopie goes on thick like dragon snot and is shiny as shag!

Despite the label, the shellac is not clear, it has a tint, so I may use that as the final coat to knock down some of the brilliance....

the krylon will be good with gnarly ass pie pan sized metal flake, and I have just the geetar for that....

So what this means is that swapping the bridge and neck pickups on a more recent 'Bird might get the sound a bit more like a vintage 'Bird with the neck pickup only. Then use the bridge for balance, which is pretty much what I do except that the Thunderbuckers in the Flamingo are neck and bridge as intended, not swapped. I might have yet another project to take on.

That's how it was when it had Chinabuckers in it, but for whatever reason, I decided to go back to the conventional thing with a 63N at the neck and a 66S at the bridge. Swapping them puts a really hot pickup in the neck position and a much tamer pickup at the bridge. It could make some kind of difference.

measuring this next….curious….Thunderbird for blues?….….

Sounds great! Always love the very prominent visible and audible role bass plays in blues, such fun to play. Kind of a shame that blues isn’t more mainstream than a lot of the auto tuned pop junk that seems to dominate the music industry today.

Next thing you are going to tell us is that you can play country and funk on a Thunderbird. We all know that's as impossible as playing blues on a Thunderbird. Really, who are you gonna believe? Your lying eyes watching it happen or the accumulated knowledge of ages that is absolute truth?

There have been few eras when the prominent pop music of the day was anything any of us would ever remember. The stuff we listen to now wasn't necessarily what was on the radio back when. With some exceptions. As has always been.

There's some fun modern junk too. Lizzo, Dua Lipa, Charlie Puth, and Bruno all have fun stuff that is really carried by the bass.
