Thunderbird Club

I love rosewood. But I can live with ebony just fine.
I want a Thunderbird with an ebony board. The ‘05 Studio is Rosewood. But it’s really nice.

TT!

Chuck, is this your first experience with EBCFs on a VP?
They truly are an amazing string on an amazing bass. All the top end one could ever ask for out of a flat, yet still creamy smooth on the bottom. If I were a gigging artist looking to get into a super flexible incredibly sweet sounding stage set up at the lowest possible cost (basically biggest bang for the buck) I’d be hard pressed to find a better fit than a used VP for $500 with some EBCFs and a used $500 GK MB212 combo. That set up would would punch way above its weight class.

That's a nice line up! Glad you got the BaCH back from Marshall!:smug:

I love that bass. He was smart to get that from you.
LOL - I don’t think anybody is getting that BaCH away from @MCF anytime soon. :D
It was (still is) a great bass with one of the most dynamic necks I’ve ever played. I just wish I could have gotten along with the single pup layout on it. My right hand was constantly searching for a familiar spot to rest and there just wasn’t anything there to anchor on. Guess I’m more of a IV man than a II man.

Holy happy horse poopie, the B-16 bigsby is a shaging 50’s engineering marvel, like the shaging Edsel…

Gargantuan pain in the ass to get set initially, but so far I’m liking it….

I’m still waiting on my headstock decals so I can finish paint/clear, and I have the treble strings set up at the nut and saddle, but I’m going to bed and I’ll do the bass strings and finish wiring tomorrow.

Willy,
That’s looking really cool and very original. I’ve considered doing a finish like that but was always concerned about how to keep the edges from bunching. Did you end up not wrapping the fabric over the edges? I see a slight white burst type edging around the perimeter, is that used to cover any gap where the fabric meets the edge radius? When it’s all done I’d love to see some close up detail shots and maybe some tips on how to successfully do a finish like this.

V - I was hoping to have one of the first maple fretboard birds in the club, but it looks like you beat me to it. I really really like that neck with that bass, just so different yet so familiar. Carlo hit it out of the park with that one, and it looks like you caught it!:D
