Thunderbird Club

V - I was hoping to have one of the first maple fretboard birds in the club, but it looks like you beat me to it. I really really like that neck with that bass, just so different yet so familiar. Carlo hit it out of the park with that one, and it looks like you caught it!:D

It's a really nice sounding bass. But, I won't be keeping that neck on it, after 30-40 minutes my left hand isn't happy at all, so it's getting a Jazz neck............

I put a 5 string set of the cobalt rounds (the only gauge they do in 5) on my Ric 4003s/5 and it basically saved it for me. I did not like the Ric 5 until I put those strings on it. And that was purely by accident, I had meant to order an EBCF 5 string set.

I'm really liking them so far, but I tend to like flats in general so I'm slightly tempted....

When I had an office in Sacto and was living up there part time from ‘15 to ‘18, I stopped into the little shop in town that was a dealer. I think he said the one I spent time playing was less than six pounds. It sure felt like it. I didn’t buy it because I had just bought my ‘15 Tbird and my surf green Pbass. Always wanted one.

What kinda self respecting Thunderbird Club member would own a Surf Green P Bass??
This club is going down hill!
:) :) :) :)

The 2814’s are smaller gauge on the E (100) and A(80), these are the set I use for any E standard tuned bass I use them on. The 45-105 and 50-105 sets works great for Eb tuning and the 55-110 set does a good job on D standard.

I use their 40-95 gauge.
Perfect feel and tension for me.
Plus i'm no longer heavy handed for years now.
Just love em.

Well, I haven’t tried the Cobalt rounds on anything else but the 5’er, so I don’t know if I would like them on a FSO or TSO yet.

I KNOW I love the EBCFs on pretty much everything I’ve tried them on once I get the right gauge on for the application. For instance:

I have 50-70-85-105 (2812) on a P-bass tuned Eb, and it’s perfect.

I have 55-75-90-110 (2811) on a P-bass tuned D standard and it’s also perfect.

I have 45-65-80-100 (2814) on a Jazz tuned E standard and it’s almost perfect(maybe just slightly lighter on the tension for me but good on that bass).

I have 40-60-70-95 (2815) on a fretless Jazz and it’s surprisingly a good match, even with the lighter tension.

I just put on 45-65-80-100 (2814) on a Thunderbird tuned E standard and it feels good, but I might move to the 45-65-85-105 (2813) because I am finding I like a little stiffer string on TSO’s.

In all cases above I frequently drop the “E” (whatever it’s tuned to) a whole step, and keeping enough tension is important, especially on Thunderbirds.

‘72 was a great year. What motor?
You know, that may be the only MOPAR in our extended family that I don't know for sure. I'm thinking 383 as that's the only thing coming to mind. Nothing larger comes to mind, but some of those Chrysler body styles had 360s. It was a beautiful car. He knew an older man near his house who bought it new and never drove it much. Sadly he was working late designing a system for a Ford factory (Mechanical Eng), and pulled right out in front of someone leaving the office. Totaled it. He and the other person were OK. Had he not been in a literal tank I suspect he would have been really hurt.

LOL - I don’t think anybody is getting that BaCH away from @MCF anytime soon. :D
It was (still is) a great bass with one of the most dynamic necks I’ve ever played. I just wish I could have gotten along with the single pup layout on it. My right hand was constantly searching for a familiar spot to rest and there just wasn’t anything there to anchor on. Guess I’m more of a IV man than a II man.
If nothing else, the IVs just look balanced to me. But that BaCH was stunning just as it was.
