My son-in-law is making me hungry.

Interesting article from Reverb about our favorite bass's "little brother".
A Timeline of Gibson Firebirds
BTW, I'd kinda half forgot, but many mango seasons ago I bought a burst Firebird NR(don't recall what #)with the idea of putting together a band with matching NRs-like a group I saw in Mineral Point, WI. They had two burst FBs and a burst TB, plus a female drummer who was as beautiful as she was talented. Very.
As you might guess, my idea went nowhere so I sold the FB(I don't play gee-tar).

On 2nd thought, i'm gonna hit the backburn on my treebird - Listening to loads of videos & some sound better than others. Kinda starting to fancy the S.Duncans custom shop, but i feel at that point, i'd just save up for the Gibson NRs & call it a day.

The current Gibson from the 2021 Re-issue are great pickups - Just buy them. :)

  1. Sounds like you guys are saying is it's worth grabbing this.
I need to find out how much trouble it is crossing the border with gear, if you're not playing gigs or selling.
TB is acting up.

When I brought the El Degas back down, I declared it. The customs guy looked nervous and asked if I bought it on that trip. I said no. I bought it a while ago and was only now able to get it back home. He looked relieved and that was that.

Go figure. Canadian customs might be different.

Gotta admit, it was the goofiest grounding issue I’ve run across. Basically the output jack tip was coming in contact with the grounding tape on the underside of the control cavity cover (never seen that before) and the tip contact surface wasn’t making good contact with some cables, but ok with others (seen that plenty of times).

Reset the tip contact to the correct position and removed a patch of the control cavity grounding tape so if the top hits the inside if the cover it’ll just hit plastic and not a conductive surface. Ideally I would have liked to have taken a forstner bit to the output jack seat to lower the jack in the cavity a bit but time didn’t really permit. It’s perfectly playable as is but next time Marshall comes over he can bring the bass with him and we’ll fix it up nicely.

BTW - not sure what strings are on it, but it’s a sweet sounding bass if your sound goals are on the darker side. I now have that model Tbird on my GAS short list.

There’s always a goofier grounding issue somewhere.

Great work!

It’s not Canadian customs I’m concerned about.
I have to declare everything. My Nexus card is pretty important to me.

I’m new to the flock. Please instruct me on how to tone shape a thunderbird to sound like (e.g., a p bass)
Best way I can tell somebody to tone shape anything.... find a tone that sounds good on its own to you. Now, if you're playing with a group bump the mids up some and put a low cut/high pass on it if you can. If not, dip the lows ever so slightly. That'll probably be close to sitting nicely in a mix.

Once my financials are cleared & I can get both at the same time (vs swapping one & then waiting for the other). if they prove to my liking, the Epi Deep Sixx pups will be up for grabs (if anyone here is interested that is).

I did pull them out of my bird to get individual readouts, & i've no clue if anyone who owns an Epiphone Blackbird could confirm their own pickup output, but the neck pickup reads 12.32k, while the bridge pickup reads 17.04k. No wonder i'm having extreme darkness (my old friend). I bought these many moons ago, & i suspect they're not a match set (the neck pickup's 2 screws are on the bass side, where the bridge's on the treble side). At this point, anything with a lower output rating will leviate my quest.
