Played through this cool '68 (2x12 50w tube) Gretsch Super Bass amp last night w/Bond Girl at the Kilowatt/SF. It was the house bass rig and I learned the bartender Peter owned it. There was a substantial FOH and a sound-guy who knew what he was doing so we had a good sound and set. Being late Sunday, raining and the time change, I anticipated low turnout. But there was a healthy, enthusiastic crowd the whole night. 1st band 'The Minks' was an all female Kinks cover band that Cherie was a member of over 10 yrs ago. 2nd band 'Carnaby 4' was a '60s Brit-Pop/garage band so the night was '60s UK themed. There will be pic's eventually as Cherie's friend who is an amateur photographer was in the house with a nice digital camera.

Looked just like this one that recently sold on Reverb for a $850.

I played through one of those 30+ years ago at an in-house jam session in Tallahassee Florida. Easily one of the best bass amps I have ever used. Not loud enough for a loud rock show but the tone was fantastic. Been looking for one ever since. Just missed on one locally a few years back on Facebook Marketplace. Great amp!

I had no problem sounding loud enough on stage, especially w/the FOH. Tube amps have a special sound.

Thanks! I did put "IRVmix" in the file name:D
Care to guess at the bass/strings?
I think it's generally easy much of the time to pick out a Pbass verses a Jazz, but beyond that I'm not so good and would hate to embarrass myself.

Who am I kidding, I don't really care because I'm used to it. The too obvious answer might be a Thunderbird, but I can't help but lean toward your Greco-backer maybe. Strings...rounds maybe or EBCFs. But I can't get away from flats in general either. Okay, now tell me how far off I was!:D A double bass with 20 year old strings?

If it's a T-bird, then all those discussions about a T-bird sounding like a P-bass are out the window. I mean, it won't surprise me what bass it is - maybe it's his Jolana Discobas.

Sounds P-like w/flats?

I’m going for the over the top, not in a million year guess - Kala Ukulele Bass with Pahoe strings. :D

It's my VP with Cobalt flats:D. I guess you can get a Tbird to sound like a Pbass. Not that I was trying to, I just grabbed that bass and it sounded good.
Neck pickup full, bridge at about 8, tone about 7, using my D800+ set flat as a DI > into the board.

Yeah, that's what I said wasn't it? Told you I wasn't very good at that. I get the bridge rolled back a bit. I wondered about a Thunderbird with the neck only as that seemed more likely than both pickups of anything really to my old ear. but seemed too obvious. All this simply confirms what we all feared. Tone is in the DI set flat.:smug:

Hah! So much for the P vs T debate.
