Thunderbird Club

Thanks Engle, yes, I was running the crazy little 15 watt Ashdown tube amp I bought some years ago. It gets louder than I expected with the two cabs, and if I am going through the PA as well, it just adds to the fun.
There you've got the definition of <Bass Amp as stage monitor>. If you like the sound you're hearing, bingo!

Played through this cool '68 (2x12 50w tube) Gretsch Super Bass amp last night w/Bond Girl at the Kilowatt/SF. It was the house bass rig and I learned the bartender Peter owned it. There was a substantial FOH and a sound-guy who knew what he was doing so we had a good sound and set. Being late Sunday, raining and the time change, I anticipated low turnout. But there was a healthy, enthusiastic crowd the whole night. 1st band 'The Minks' was an all female Kinks cover band that Cherie was a member of over 10 yrs ago. 2nd band 'Carnaby 4' was a '60s Brit-Pop/garage band so the night was '60s UK themed. There will be pic's eventually as Cherie's friend who is an amateur photographer was in the house with a nice digital camera.

Looked just like this one that recently sold on Reverb for a $850.

It did sound huge with my MXR Fuzz Deluxe and EH POG pedals engaged. The 1st two bands' bass-players used very bassy settings so I turned down the amps volume a bit, and boosted my MXR d.i.'s volume, mid and treble to dial my favored more defined tone. Even still it had a nice big fat bottom (FOH helped there) but with my adjustments offered more articulation, especially playing with a pick.
Because we we the last band and it was late, we could have used more on-stage monitor tweaking, but it was workable ATC. Next time...

Good evening Thunderbird loving sisters and brothers. I hope everyone has had a good relaxing weekend. The back to back gigs in Walla Walla went well, and we had great fun. The winery gig Friday I had imagined being in a huge, cavernous production room, but we heard Thursday we would be playing outdoors. I rather imagined we would be on the covered patio, with the fire and tall heaters. We ended up being on the stage in this small sort of amphitheater. Since it was cool, then cold and damp, folks stayed up on the patio, which meant space between us and the audience. They provided the system and they have a super good sound man, so it went very well. I used an older 5 string P, as it got cold when the sun set, and I was concerned about the effect on both an instruments set up, and finish. We retuned often, ended up wearing all the clothes I brought, but had great fun. The second night at the Eagles was great, very relaxed. Folks getting up to dance, and generally interacting with the band made for a good evening. I saw a few nephews and nieces that I don't get to see often, enjoyed some delicious wine, and good food. Happy that I picked up a second 2X10 cab. We visited a few wineries in hopes of getting booked for next years events. Good to go, good to be back in the man cave commiserating with my basses. I appreciate all the good advice I received here. I hope you are all enjoying a relaxing evening.
Cheers!
Great report. Given the many, many ways gigs can go sideways it's nice to hear when things go well and no chairs were thrown.

It depends on the neck angles. I have the issue with the the Supertone for Epis. The Babicz design, by its nature, can take the string almost down to the deck. There is a lot more adjustability up and down with the Babicz. Maybe the Supertone works fine on the set Gibson neck angles on the set and through neck basses. But it has been frustrating trying to use it on bolt-on Epis and dial in low string action.
I had good luck with the Hipshot on my bolt on Goth, but might have just been good luck.

Here's one of my preview mixdowns from our DJB EP sessions. One of Mike's (guitarist) called Out of Bounds.

I'm sure Alex will do some better production on the tracks!
Sounds great!

Decided to get rid of the bronze phosphor stings on the acoustic bass and replace them with Roto88 (RS88M) medium scale tapes. I like La Bella tapes but the last time I contacted their customer service group I pretty much got a TS response to their messed up silks. Fret Nation said to expect them in about 2 weeks.

Is it louder than a Bassman 50?
