It probably weighs more. The ultimate ACC stack for excess is a 320 head and 408 cabinet. Four 15s. Two are front firing, and two fire at each other in a slot between the front firing 15s. Letting that amp go is the only gear regret I can think of. It was huge, but it sure sounded great.

I referred to it as that primarily because it was big and white, like an actual refrigerator. (which Ampeg "fridges" aren't)

So what is the function of the tube attempting to hide behind the power tubes?

missed that one (and two more), it’s actually six twin triodes….without pulling the schem, I’d guess it’d be the cathode followers driving the inverter…..this one doesn’t use the 12BH7s like on the Blue Lines but instead paralleled 12AX7s …..easier to see from this view..

Ah. I’d thought about drivers but couldn’t see enough tubes.
I forget which but tgere was at least one amp model using 6V6s to drive the output stage.

As for Hot Chocolate, they were one of the few UK bands that funked and also had a rocky edge to them back then, and a hell of a singer!

Did you folk over the pond get this one in your charts back then?

It was a hit down in Oz. The singer was Errol Brown ? Memory test.

Which reminded me of a video we watched the other day that answered the biggest question in the universe: Why to people from the UK and Commonwealths sing with an American accent and generally with a Southern flavor. His answer made sense.

just geek stuff….comparing 12AX7s driving 6L6s to 6L6s driving 6550s is like comparing small blocks to big blocks…..purely “bigger is better” engineering testosterone hence my CID analogy…..it can be safely said that in tube amps, more tube displacement (physical volume) can/should equate to more hoooomph……wish I liked them more for live bass….

You are always informative. And I understood all of this! I wish I would have learned more about the amp side of things years ago instead of focusing so much on being a poor bass player.
