Ok you bloody enablers, I can get any one of these bass cabs for about the same price used and about the same condition.

Looking at just these four, which one would you choose if you wanted rich deep lows solid mids and a smooth top end, not looking for super punchy or crisp, just a nice non distorted fart free low end at relatively high in home volumes (much louder than bedroom volumes or typical practice volumes) in a big open room with lots of hard surfaces and a cathedral ceiling. Basses will be mostly Tbirds and mostly humbuckers.

I’d be powering it with a Musicman 150 watt hybrid amp that has a tube power section and SS preamp and can run at either 4 or 8 ohms. No plans at all for an extension cab. It will remain stationary in my living room so weight isn’t really a factor.

The Epifani T-212 is a great choice.
I once owned the PowerHouse 212.
Also an excellent cab.

Depending on your pickups and bass, a cap change can make a world of difference.


The Berg is very tempting, but I’m leaning towards Epifani on this one right now.


Yep, and he loves it. I have one also as my main rig. Best sounding cab made in the 410 or smaller category IMHO.
On the down side, I called Jim Bergantino and discussed the HT322 with him and the watch out is that the speakers which were proprietary have been discontinued and there isn’t an equivalent drop in replacement. So I’m probably gonna pass on the Berg and go with one of the other three.

You hear of this a lot it seems. And to think those suckers used to last decades.

The last three years I lived in my apartment in Irvine, I used an old Admiral from the 40’s that my now wife’s grandfather gave me. It was more than 30 years old and a tank. The only reason it didn’t go to Sacto with me in ‘83 was because all the rentals up there came with fridges. I bet I’d still be using it had I kept it.

I don't think anyone beats Rotos there. That said, I love the SIT Power Wounds if you want more crunch (which I associate with more mids). The SIT SS are brighter, but in my applications, the NPS seems to have more mids--and are bright for NPS. Win, win!

We seem to travel a pretty similar tone path, and for that reason these would be tops on my list to consider.

I have no experience with any of those mentioned, but when I've played GK cabs they didn't have that big sweet sound I'm after. But I have not played every cab they make. Not a knock. I don't even like most Ampeg cabs and I'm a Ampeg guy. The Mesa's I have played all sounded good from what I recall. For some reason I can imagine the Epifani or Bergantino being a bad choice.

Peavey Megabass. Dumb loud. The eq section is odd, but it does rock n roll, has a bit of a signature. But I think it's a good installation amp. I've gigged with one, with a 1x18 Bag End can and JBL E-155. That was a cool rig.

Old Peavey amps are fantastic. They weigh, but once it is where it is going, I don't plan to move it much. The 360 is enough exercise.

I had 2 GK cabs and thought them ok, then I got that SWR, the difference was amazing, even with my 700RB II set up the same way - so much more punch.
