I played a little drummerless gig last night and played the first set plugged straight into the amp (Hartke Kickback 12), and the second set through the SansAmp Bass Fly Rig.
The SansAmp, set properly, brought out a lot of what I was looking for. But that is an interesting idea.
I'm finding myself appreciating the "work with what you have" ethic. Sometimes these p'ups really do a nice almost-dark punch. If I could get to the other end of the dynamic spectrum, I'd stop worrying it.
Was "All of the above" an option?
We seem to travel a pretty similar tone path, and for that reason these would be tops on my list to consider.
Epifani T-212 (2x12 + tweeter) ported (tweeter can be turned off)
Bergantino Ht322 (1x12 + 2x10 + tweeter) ported (tweeter can be turned off)
I have no experience with any of those mentioned, but when I've played GK cabs they didn't have that big sweet sound I'm after. But I have not played every cab they make. Not a knock. I don't even like most Ampeg cabs and I'm a Ampeg guy. The Mesa's I have played all sounded good from what I recall. For some reason I can imagine the Epifani or Bergantino being a bad choice.

Well that kind of takes the adventure out of it.
George. It dawned on me that Jeff @JJR58 has the Berg HT 322. I know he thinks highly of it. Ping him.
I haven't played the Epifani or the Berg, but Mesa has always been a good sounding cab to me... So you can largely dismiss my response.
I had one of these(K150 bass combo). Sounded great but was too much PITA for my(then)70y/o @$$ to lift inandout of the gigmobile. Got a 34.5# Rumble 200c in November 2015 to replace it.

Cool! I bet that song would go over well. Many who don't like bluegrass can dig that one.
I don't think I've ever seen someone play banjo like a guitar (picking style), but it worked out. (Typically traditional three finger style or clawhammer--think Grandpa Jones.)

I don't think anyone beats Rotos there. That said, I love the SIT Power Wounds if you want more crunch (which I associate with more mids). The SIT SS are brighter, but in my applications, the NPS seems to have more mids--and are bright for NPS. Win, win!I've had Rotosound SM66s on it, broke a string, and then put some strings on it which brand I can't recall. Sounds better though!
Maybe I'll do new strings first... Who's got a good bright, crunchy string rec?

I love how that bass turned out. Killer.
Which is one of the things I love about Jack's BBQ in Nashville. Very healthy sides, unlike most BBQ places where you get a thimble full for a side. And that are all great. It's a 6 string banjo, tuned like a gee-tar. He mostly plays guitar with us, especially since most of the places we play don't have room in the band 'area'(almost no stages).
This was shot at our first gig as a group, 8/8/14.
For some effing reason, if I post one video offa our play list, it'll then play all the rest. IDK how to fix that. This was #6 outta 15.

You're clearly thinking too much.
Her parents were pushing her in that direction because, at the time (late 1970s), science careers were becoming more open to women. It really wasn’t her calling or choice.
