Is there a weight difference between both VPs? Sometimes that can be a factor (i've noticed in my own pbasses, & i replaced pickups at least 3 times in two of them because they just didn't gel well with those)

Thanks! The pic showing it balance was shot before I sprayed the aluminum extension matte black. If one wears a black shirt - it pretty much disappears visually.

But now I'm excited. They were backordered until the Spring, but yesterday I was looking at something at the Gibson site and went over to this '61 Standard page and saw lefties in stock. I emailed my contact and he confirmed they did do an unexpected run and said I should be receiving this today and sent me a tracking number. I thought he meant the tracking number, but it was out for delivery. What a surprise.

Outstanding! I have a bottom of the line Gibson SG that I picked up for pretty cheap, used, and it's a screamer. It's a whole lot of fun to play, even though my playing isn't much fun to hear. That one looks like it will be even better. It sure looks better.

incidentally, this joint boasts the best under sea level cheeseburger in CA…..they are probably right…

Thanks, all. I'm sure my playing won't be pretty, either, but I'm looking forward to it. This is the "Standard '61" model.
