Naw I didn't. This is just a short initial reaction video I did for the store. I'll be moving on it's a fine bass but I'm saving my $ for the custom color 60s Thunderbirds to be released soon.

They better not do a Lake Placid Blue. I'm on the prep stage for painting my VP.

I ordered some StringJoy strings for the '81 G&L from Sweetwater, in part because I had a tiny credit and those sound absolutely amazing on it, more so than everything else I tried. I ordered via the website but my rep called when he saw the order just because we hadn't talked for about a year or so. Who does that? he plays bass and is mainly an Ampeg guy so we have some things in common. Though he also has a nice Ashdown head/rig as I recall. Anyway, he asked about those strings as he had not tried them yet. I gave him my impressions and how they were a perfect match for the G&L and was glad they started carrying them. I said he should check to see if they could carry SITs as they are great strings and there were a number of people I knew who love them. He said he would talk to the merchandise person about it. He thought it kind of odd they didn't carry them since they were not far at all from SW. We'll see if it comes to pass. They will have to do better on pricing or at least match some of the online sellers to be competitive for people already finding good prices on them.

That's interesting. Every phaser I've tried got louder when engaged and bass was lower or more noticeable, at least at certain points in the sweep.

The block versions I've used do seem to have a boost, but didn't quite nail the soup-y sound I was going for. A bit more quack-y in the mids. The script, at least mine, had a bit of a volume drop, probably due to a bit off low end loss, but the mods fixed that and gave it a boost when on. Trying to remember if I added the "R28" feedback resistor or not. Increased the input cap (maybe output cap as well) from 47nF to 100nF, think it sits somewhere between a Script and Block now.

That is cool, but not being a hardcore collector, I'd customize one myself for a lot less, even with a pro paint job.

If it was lime green, that would be even better. I saw one like that quite a while ago, but it wasn't for sale and I didn't have any money at the time anyway. In about 1978, I could have gotten a 1950 Cadillac hearse for really cheap. Only problem was that it had no glass. You can imagine the rest of the problems it had if it was missing all the glass. Another time lack of money saved me from a really dumb decision.

The whole schtick was that me and a buddy, both 16 years old and dressed like Brando in “the Wild Ones” managed to finagle our way into the bar under the guise as the road crew…

I thought you'd like that - colour is pretty close to yours. Curious that the bridge/tail-piece are snugged up to each other. Possibly the bridge was relocated lower prior to the re-fin for proper intonation.

Still out of my league, even if I wanted a Flying V.

A Greco 'Bird popped up for less than $1K locally on Craigslist. It is one neighborhood to the north of me, and I almost called the seller. It looks like it could be a decent one, although I prefer chrome hardware to black.

The insanely priced white '64 is still on Reverb. I think it's a refin and I don't care what the seller says. Look at the pictures. The headstock is yellowed. He's got an answer for that, although I'm less than convinced. Then look at how much finish is in the stamped serial number. Then look at the photo of the control cavity. The white finish under the cover is yellowed a whole lot more than the finish outside. It probably was a white Thunderbird based on the photos, but I'm absolutely convinced it's not the original finish.
