Thunderbird Club

Oh, I’m sure he did. Behind the scenes anyway. She and Gidget (Sally Fields) made quite an impression on the young me. And pretty much every young starlet who guested on The Man From Uncle. And Mrs. Peel. And Katherine Ross. And Raquel Welch. And Mary Ann…….

Speaking of a ginger - how about the lovely Irish McCalla who played Sheena:Queen of the Jungle in the 1950’s?

really excellent BaCH info, thank you!

mine are a series IV IV in cherry I added a belly cut to and a series V II in the sunburst (which seemed thicker than the IV) that I had GEO add a belly cut to and had refinished white…
couple of pics of the series V with belly cut compared to a 68…

Ah, I couldn't remember if it was a Series III or another one that had been refin'd. Does it have the neck volute? It doesn't have the forearm contour. I think the end of the run might be a bit murky, I've seen Honeyburst ones with volute and no forearm contour, and there was one that popped up on CL in LA a few years back with volute and a forearm bevel, stock. I didn't go for it because of the forearm bevel, just didn't look right.

I also need to correct myself, mine is a Series IV, same as yours, just a II. I had John Kallas add the contour, not that it was uncomfortable, just wanted it to be closer to an original Gibson. Fairly certain mine was owned by Scott at one point, when it was Cherry it had a very distinct dark spot in the lower horn.

Did someone mention Jethro Tull?

Must admit that I like Martin Barre’s first gen Hamer Standard-

Hamer had some cool damned instruments, too bad they just kinda petered out and disappeared.

don’t think I’ve ever seen a Hiwatt PA amp…

Vintage 1969 Hiwatt PA 200 DR203 Custom Built 6L6 Valve Amplifier Head | Reverb
Hiwatt DR112 100w EL34 PA head vintage valve amplifier tube guitar amp 6 channel | Reverb

The DR203 and DR112 were their PA models, I think there was a 50w version as well?

Mine is a '69 (most of the internals date to December '68 or so) AP100 (DR103), but a bit of an oddball as best I can tell. Figure the serial is somewhere in the 500 range, per the guys over at Hi-Tone, and it has a different pre-amp/tone stack arrangement than the standard DR103 layout. Not quite as Hi-Fi, a little dirtier and woolier. Guess Reeves was playing around with different layouts at the time before settling on a standard.

I’m not certain what my II is. It is very thin and contoured. It is black. And it is fairly light. I’m estimating about 8 1/2 pounds.

That would probably be the Series III, not sure if the I or II came in black.

Paris was so underrated. As both a Fleetwood Mac and Tull fan, I thought they were great. Just never caught the right wave

My favorite Mac album is Mystery to Me, Bob Welch was very underrated in my book. A damned slap in the face he wasn't included in the RRHOF when Fleetwood Mac was inducted.

As for Glenn, it was a damned shame this track never made it on a Wild Turkey album until decades later.

Anyone here rock an 8 string?
upload_2024-2-11_0-44-55.jpeg

I played in a 3 piece band in the 80’s and the Hamer 8 string can really fill in as a rhythm guitar by playing bass chords with bass lines that have piano like tones.
I can only play a song or two now but back then I could play 3 sets!
I don’t like that race stripe but if I could find one I might pull the trigger.

@JIO has one but don’t think we’ve ever heard it. I’ve seen it hanging on his wall, but that’s all.

So is this a new Gibson bass?

I've been known to, on occasion

It sounds good straight but it sounds better through a P.O.G. pedal... :bassist: (octaves on steroids!) I feel 8-string basses are cool for specific applications live or recording unless one builds the bands sound around that specific sound -

Loved the lines of the 62. My first car was a 62 Impala convertible. 327, 250(?), powerglide(not my choice).
Here you go Mike, a pair of GMH Aussie assembly 62’s. A BelAir & a Pontiac Laurentian. The top of the GMH tree in 1962. Blue Flame 6 and 3 on the tree manual but leather seats and nice carpet. I think we didn’t get the 289 V8 and auto til 64.

I was told to post here so here goes.

My Thunderbird Pro IV - absolutely great instrument. I’m so pleased with this bass, it’s going to be my one and only bass (well let’s see how that goes).
IMG_5239.jpeg

Here’s my first bass that I owned for only a week before the Pro IV came out for sale for bargain.
This one is currently for sale.

And since this thread seem to contain a little bit of everything, here’s my Thunderbird I’ve had since I was 14 (17 years now).

It's a beater, I would pass on it!
I'll take that as good advice, as it is looking like more work, therefore time, therefore money, than it's worth. I'll want it to be what it should, including p'ups, and (at $300) it'll end up costing more than a new one, likely.
It was a fun idea, but...
Thanks, Your Grace.
