Thunderbird Club

Stating the obvious here, I took one of my Thunderbirds to my Sabbath/ Ozzy tribute rehearsal tonight. I was struggling with the 7ender for this gig but was forcing myself because thats what Geezer and Daisley used. Using my 2021 Nonreverse was a pleasure, everything sounded right, was easy to play and just felt right. I really think I did myself a disservice try to use a FSO for this gig. The band even noticed how much more comfortable I seemed and they loved the sound of the Thunderbird!View attachment 5359150
I'd love to hear a sample of that with the Big Muff.

I wonder what that pickup is by the neck on Fred Turner's Jazz?

Don't know if I've ever seen that clip, kinda rare seeing Tim Bachman on guitar! I really like their first three records a lot - "Blue Collar" is a masterpiece.

Fred and Randy look better now than they did back then, and they still can play too. RIP Tim and Rob.

I'm shocked!
Not really. Once people get over their 'fear' of "The 'Bird" and realize how good they sound, they come around.

I avoid if at all possible and not so much to do with quality. They dump so many counterfeit items you wonder when you buy a name brand if it's even the real name brand or not.
Look up China’s restrictions on Aussie exports over the last few years…. :(

The boots you mentioned a while back, the Ariat's that I wear mainly around the house were made in C. Very nice boot. Corners are cut on materials lie the sole and the way they are made (part of their intended approach to d things differently), compared to my two pair of Dan Post or Tony Lama's I recently bought. But they are very well made and did well on the details. Which one's will be around in 20+ yrs? I won't care if I could care!
My RMW’s will supposedly last and last, you can send them back for a resole or other repairs too - cheaper than buying another pair. I have two pair now. One in black and one in chestnut.

Even better, iconic Aussie brands RMW & Akubra, and Drizabone are back in Australian ownership. Thanks to a couple of local billionaires.

Geezer may have mostly used a 7ender but what I remember him using are the Dan Armstrong and the BC Ironbird.

7enders aren’t memorable

So maybe Rob can enlighten us? @Basvarken?

I did talk with BaCH about the construction of their rectangular case and how to improve that for the NR Tbird.
And during those conversations a gig-bag was discussed too. But I was against a gig-bag, because I thought (still do) the headstock/neck of the NR Tbird is too vulnerable for a gig-bag. Even with a support block and padded sides.
I had no idea they went ahead and made one anyway. I can't remember that I ever saw one.

I suck at pictures, but there she is. The strap I have is a bit short (I'm 6'6", 320 pounds) so I was playing it higher than I would an FSO. My drummer, who's a better bass player than I am, commented that, "I don't know if it's the new bass or where you're playing it, but you're playing super tight tonight." If I could I'd go get a second one, as long as I'm getting complimented on it.

It's so true that when there is some little thing off you just feel like you are working more and having less fun--and you just feel some unease. That can be tone or playability. Tone trips me up more than playability. I can adjust to most anything if it sounded great. Assuming it didn't have cables on it with high action. Great tone I gotta have.
