This is a cool bit of history I just stumbled accross - the 1st recording of "Hey Joe" by its author Billy Roberts from 1961-2. I remember 1st hearing Jimi Hendrix's and The Byrd's up-tempo version in the late '60s and later Nick Caves somber/suspenseful version later still. A song that seemed to resonate enough to be continually resurrected.

I like Nick Caves version a lot - puts it in the right atmosphere -

And Tim Rose (not sure when... late '60s?)

Me too Irv - aside from it having an unnerving subject/theme of shooting ones unfaithful mate, similar to "Down By the River", another song that was covered by multiple artists.

I don't think it could be any worse than Mogan David. It's been over 40 yrs and I can still taste that awful stuff. The only thing I ever drank and puked with. Didn't even drink all that much. I think it was a gov plan to kill off all the winos. Seems to have worked. People have moved on to less dangerous stuff like crack and H.

Which reminds me. Something I reckon only Miles has heard or remembers.

The neck is wider at the nut but a bit thinner overall near the body than any of my Epis - basic IV, CP, or VP.

Yep. Good bass line(I sometimes play it warming up, trying new strings*, etc). Used to sing it in a previous band. Hmm. Maybe I should bring it into the current group.
