View attachment 5380528 View attachment 5380529 Different thunderbird, I have a 2013 Gibson Bird and I’m struggling setting it up (I’ve been doing setups for more than 35 years). The bridge pickup does raise enough to get a reasonable volume, and if I drop the bridge much lower the string lie on the fretboard more than relief will take care of. Should I get locker pickup screws or risers? Anyone else run into this?
Yes. Longer screws will work, but be careful with the length. You might also consider gluing in a piece of wood for a riser.

I've never been able to get on with Ampeg heads. Almost like the tone controls are...too extreme? Like the mids seem honky, or the bass seems too boomy or the highs too clicky. I keep trying them as I can, thinking maybe one day I'll stumble on the settings or the Ampeg that makes me get the Ampeg thing, but no luck so far. Guess I'll stick with the Sunns and Hiwatt and Acoustics.
I came to the conclusion that a big Ampeg wasn't my thing and moved on. No point in forcing it.

You’re a brave man.
Probably but the only music store I ever had *any* kind of problem (besides limited stock) with in the area was a botiquey store. The stores here are inevitably staffed by musicians, and they’re generally knowledgable and helpful.[/QUOTE]

Sold my standard Epi Tbird today as I never used it after I bought the one I really wanted.

goodbye Epi IV

I did the exact opposite, sort of. Kept my first ever Bird (2018 E1) and sold the Pro IV. Of course, that still leaves me a 2010 Epi Custom Shop, 2014 Epi CP, 2017 and 2021 Epi VP, and a Gibson 2015.

Well you’ve got plenty to go around then. I only had my standard EpiBird for two weeks when the Pro IV came up for sale on FB Marketplace.

That should be a pretty slim necked fiver! I see you’re ditching the Brass nut. I hope to finish filing my brass nut tomorrow.

I had it as an EADGC before and found I had plenty of room.

I thought I was sooper smart a few years ago and skipped a 5 string and got a real German Warwick 6 string. The shaging board was wider than my mother in law and weighed twice as much.

Ric nuts are Gibson-like width wise but are way taller so I had to use a few layers of veneer to shim it up. I remover the veneer when I converted it back to 4 strings and didn’t feel like shimming the brass one again.
