Any chance a TBird pickup can be mounted flush on a jazz bass? I've seen some of the pancakes mounted that way.
Yep

Are you asking if you can you mount the pickup without routing?Any chance a TBird pickup can be mounted flush on a jazz bass? I've seen some of the pancakes mounted that way.

Bingo. I'm assuming not, but...
Finally found a dimensional drawing on lollar's site.Probably not without routing
I put them in straight. If they stay that way, cool. If they don't? Also cool. IOW, IDGAS.Same here. I like lining things up, but aligning string ball ends? It's not something I want to spend time on.
Nobody's twistin' yer arm, ya know. When I made my video of the new Epiphone 64 Thunderbird I had maybe15 minutes with it, today I got to spend a bit of time with the silver one at the store. While I lm still not wild about the changes where the fingerboard meets the body it is a very well made bass and worthy of the Thunderbird name. Typical of a lot of the MIC basses the nut is cut high. As for fretwork I give the Indonesian made basses the edge but only marginally. I suppose I'll get a red one.View attachment 5381038

If you increase the neck angle with a shim, you could get some additional room. Assuming of course that the bridge saddles can be adjusted up enough. Now I'm going to look at my J...Finally found a dimensional drawing on lollar's site.
.46" tall. I'll measure my pickups when I get home to see where that would put me
Had that thought as well. Saddle screws can be bought longer too if needed. If you increase the neck angle with a shim, you could get some additional room. Assuming of course that the bridge saddles can be adjusted up enough. Now I'm going to look at my J...

If you were serious, I would give you $1k for the bass. This is as good as a Thunderbird gets with the “modern” ceramic vs. Alnico TBird Plus pickups. They screwed up marketing them and cut the runs at limited numbers. I will never sell my beautiful Pelham Blue one. It’s a great Thunderbird. And very different from my astonishing ‘21 Faded Pelham Blue NR.Hmm. OK, I'll buy it, keep the case for the 67 NR, and throw away the bass.![]()
That's pretty much the same as the Probucker 760 and the Seymour Duncan Custom Shop. Finally found a dimensional drawing on lollar's site.

I’m missing something here. Isn’t the Tbird pup twice as wide as a J pup?Had that thought as well. Saddle screws can be bought longer too if needed.
Nah, I wasn't. I get by OK for our limited gigs with my CoffinTM Case or Dean RockbagTM.If you were serious, I would give you $1k for the bass. yeah ok but 60’s NRs WILL fit the 2013 case perfectly….you can always give the ‘13 to charity…Hmm. OK, I'll buy it, keep the case for the 67 NR, and throw away the bass.![]()
